Saylor is living in a foster home!

Sweet Saylor has had a difficult 2026 so far: She was brought in to Chicago Animal Care and Control in January as a chipped stray, and then reclaimed by her owners. In the spring, she was once again brought into CACC as a stray, but this time no one came for her. Of course, we had our eyes on her then and were hoping to make her a Heartland dog, but Saylor was quickly adopted from CACC by a family who had other dogs and young kids.
In late June, the family returned her to CACC stating that they "needed to move and could not take her with." This time, we were quick to make her a Heartland dog and ensure she finds a great home that will stick!
As is the case with so many dogs who wind up with rescues like ours, Saylor has been let down by people repeatedly. Like so many dogs who have been through that, she remains one of the happiest dogs we have met and a testament to resilience. Now that we are past the half-way point of 2026, we are determined to change the narrative of Saylor being let down by people!
Saylor has been living in a foster home, where she is doing amazing! She transitioned very easily. She has been great in the house, completely respectful and well-behaved. Her foster has had to leave her at home for up to 9 hours during the workday, and she has had no issues. She has never had an accident, she is crate-trained, but also trusted to be left alone to free roam.
Saylor is silly and sweet, and has perfect energy. She is so far fantastic with children we have met on her walks. She recently interacted with a diverse group of kids, including an eight-year-old, a few tween girls, and several teenage boys. During these encounters, she was completely gentle, relaxed, and happy to let them pet her. Even while on her leash, she maintained a wonderfully low excitement level and did not jump or get overly eager, preferring instead to simply enjoy the attention for a moment before calmly continuing on her walk.
Saylor enjoys a well-rounded mix of puzzle toys, comforting plushies, and interactive games, showing great intelligence and a surprisingly gentle mouth for a larger dog! She picked up on her Starmark Bob-A-Lot Interactive Toy almost instantly, loving the challenge of nudging the wobbling dispenser around to get her kibble. For comfort, she has a favorite plush bunny that she carries around gently or lays with. She also enjoys a casual game of fetch with a tennis ball; while she is still mastering the consistency of the game—sometimes running to the ball without grabbing it—she will often successfully retrieve it and bring it right back to you.
Saylor would be a great dog for someone who likes running! Her foster mom's friend has taken Saylor along for 5-6 mile jogs along the lakefront, and Saylor loves it!
Saylor doesn't just like running alongside the lake, though... she thoroughly enjoys swimming in Lake Michigan!
We asked Saylor's foster to write a bio for her, and this is what she said:
"This precious girl is the ultimate sidekick, offering the perfect mix of sunny outdoor adventures and cozy couch-potato cuddles. Whenever she gets excited for belly rubs, she does an elite "booty-spin" dance, sometimes tumbling right over her own paws in the most adorable, clumsy-cute way. She is a total social butterfly who loves everyone she meets, walking like an absolute angel on her leash and soaking up gentle scratches from sweet kids and friendly neighbors. This little love bug is already an expert at house manners, being completely house-trained and crate-trained. She treats her kennel like her own personal castle, happily curling up on her big comforter for a long nap while you are away at work. Saylor is a polite, gentle, and utterly perfect companion who is just waiting to bring her endless good vibes to her forever family."
Saylor is as close to perfection as we could hope for. She is a great age, in great shape, and has a great personality. We hope her new beginning is right around the corner.
