Alfie originally came to Heartland from one of our rescue partners in Garland, Texas. He was fostered by one of our staff members and lived with her family and her 3 dogs until he was adopted in October. Unfortunately, his adopter's health began to decline with age and he is no longer able to care for Alfie, so he's made the difficult decision to return him to us.

Alfie's adopter filled out a bio form for us, and if anything, this dog is consistent! It doesn't sound like he's changed at all since he was in his foster home. Alfie is still the squat little wrecking ball we loved before! His adopter writes, "Alfie has lots of energy and loves to play. During TV time in the evenings, he snuggles and likes to sit on your lap. During walks, he enjoys sniffing the grass and otherwise checks in regularly, looking for treats for good behavior. While he's home alone, he has free reign in the basement den, where he chills out on a blanket, or plays with his toys. He is totally housebroken.

Car rides are great fun for him, panting as he likes looking out the window. What's more, he's smart, trained, and lovable.".

Alfie enthusiastically greets all humans as if he's known them his whole life. He also LOVES to play — and when we say play, we mean full-contact wrestling, dramatic chase scenes, and chaotic backyard WWE matches with his dog friends. He would thrive with another playful dog who enjoys roughhousing and can match his goofy energy level. He’s not trying to start trouble, he just thinks every day is recess. We paired him with other rowdy players at Heartland and they had the absolute best time together!

Alfie’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored! He is neutered and is up to date on core vaccines.

Alfie's adopter is entitled to a training scholarship worth $250. We are not able to pay this upfront; rather, once you have attended classes or had in-home or virtual training sessions, you can send us an invoice or receipt and we will reimburse you via check up to $250. Please note: the trainer must be a positive reinforcement trainer!

Alfie was previously treated for Heartworm disease with us, completing his treatment in December of 2025. Heartworm is a mosquito-borne disease and is not contagious to others. Per American Heartworm Society guidelines, he will need a retest in September 2026, to be done at the adopter's vet.
