Syllabus
This course has several lessons, each with a progress exam and most with supplemental learning materials, such as videos, illustrations, and/or downloadables.
We cover the fundamentals of canine behavior, communication, and body language. We also explore pack structure, and how you can use it to your advantage while training.
Here, we examine why it’s vital to train your dog - as well as why it’s a pleasant experience for them. We establish why we believe a rewards-based approach is the best training method, and go over the details of how our training system works. We also detail every piece of equipment you’ll need to train your dog, as well as how to use them. Finally, we offer tips on what to do if your dog is not mastering a technique.
One of the core components of rewards-based training is “clicker” or “marker” training. In this lesson, we explain how this training technique works, as well as what marker sounds and rewards can be used. We also offer tips on how to set up an ideal training environment.
“Sit” and “stay” are two of the most needed and useful commands your dog can learn. We’ll break down every element of training these commands, including “dos and don’ts.” We also cover the “Three Ds of Dog Training,” which will allow you to “proof” your dog’s behavior.
Here, we offer comprehensive guidance on teaching your dog “down,” including the foundational command as well as variations and how to combine “down” with “stay.”
We examine how to train your dog to “heel,” including how to help your dog succeed at this challenging command. We also explore how to help your dog learn “loose leash walking,” which is one of the most important skills your dog can learn - and will keep both them and others safe when out in public.
This lesson focuses on learning how to train your dog to “touch” or “target” - which is widely considered to be one of the most important foundational commands a dog can master.
Housetraining is a vital command for any dog to learn. Here, we offer detailed tips and techniques to help your dog become housetrained successfully, whether they’re a puppy, an adult dog, or dealing with medical issues.
