How to Stop your Dog From Pulling
In this module, we cover reward-based training (also known as positive reinforcement training) and how it teaches your dog to behave in a desirable way by rewarding it with food, toys, affection, and social interaction.
Being able to read your dog’s body language and knowing its triggers is also part of preventing leash pulling. In this lesson, we’ll address the behaviors to look out for when training so that you can correct them. This includes excitement, lack of focus, sniffing, and other dogs and people.
Lesson 3 covers everything you need to know in terms of obtaining the right equipment and tools for dog walking. This includes the type of leashes and collars you can use and how to get your dog comfortable wearing the “gear”.
This lesson covers three main techniques to stop a dog from pulling on a leash – clicker training, loose-leash walking, and the “heel” command. The goal is to teach your dog to calmly walk beside you without any tension on the leash.
Breeds such as herding dogs or terriers are known for their high energy and excitability. These dogs can be trickier to calm down on a leash, especially if they spot another animal or dog. This last module addresses this type of canine and how you can successfully train it not to pull.
This module provides a review of the previous five lessons and re-visits key points about techniques and tools to stop your dog from pulling.
