cardi

Cardi is a young pit bull terrier mix who came to ACCT Philly after being surrendered by her owner. Her family was no longer able to care for Cardi and described her as an active, playful, and loving dog who simply needed the right time and space to thrive.

In the shelter, Cardi is showing that she’s a sensitive, curious girl who is still adjusting to the kennel environment. While she can appear unsure and vocal in her kennel, she settles nicely once outside, walking well on leash and engaging with her surroundings through sniffing and exploration. Staff have noted soft eyes, curiosity, and moments of gentle engagement, especially when given time, space, and high-value treats. Cardi will benefit from a patient adopter or rescue who understands decompression and can allow her to build confidence at her own pace.

Meeting destiny: Curious, sniffing, middle tail, soft eyes, easily disengaged.
Owner notes say she warms up then wants to play. Hopefully we see that soon!

Kennel Presentation: growling, head low, whale eye, tail down, trembling. Mid way back in the kennel standing, ears back, looking and acting very unsure.
Tossed hot dogs in, she would slowly move to eat them. Had to lasso. With more attempts her growls for louder, once leashed she pulled back hard, loud growling, not eating. Using leash pressure she came out of kennel, and walked on a loose leash.

Leash Skills: middle tail, loose leash, sniffing a lot, pee and poop.

Sociability:
Nose to the ground, I would pet her butt, her tail would wag after with a little bounce in her step. Kept gaze forward, ears back.
At the end she turned towards me and gently jumped, averted gaze, soft body language. I spoke baby talk and turned my body so her paws went back on the ground, I don’t want to pet her and put her in a position where she would get nervous. We will try more petting next time!
