Buddy the elf, what's your favorite color?
Meet Buddy Boy! Just like his namesake, our pal Buddy Boy is very social, high energy, and playful! Unfortunately Buddy is no stranger to the shelter life. Buddy was originally surrendered on 12/09/23 because his owner passed away and their mother wasn't able to keep up with a puppy of his size on her own. He was described as being happy and friendly but needing a lot of puppy energy outlets and some training.
Buddy was adopted at that time into what he thought was his forever home, but unfortunately ended up back at the shelter in May 2024 when he was failed by his new owner, who threatened to throw Buddy out on the streets if the shelter didn't take him back immediately! The owner stated this was to no fault of Buddy's, that he's a good dog and they just no longer had time.
Buddy is now hoping that his next owner is his FOREVER buddy who understands the commitment of owning and loving a dog. See more about what his friends at the shelter have said below!

Behavior:
Per Volunteer 5/31/24: was jumping up to come outside of his kennel and he was pretty excited to go outside. He does pull strongly on the leash, but I think after he gets his energy out, he is much more manageable. He found a loose toy in the yard as we were walking and immediately started to play with it. He is so cute. He starts to throw the toys to himself and then goes to retrieve them. Loves squeaky toys and stuffies, and is very playful. Very trainable too! He immediately sat when I asked him too and took a treat nicely. Allows handling all over.
Per Staff 5/30/24:
Love this boy!!! He is so friendly and wiggly. Loves squeaker toys and loves pets. He pulls a bit on leash but seems to take correction well. Takes treats eagerly so open palm hand would be best! He easily leashes and goes right back into kennel wih ease. Hes a good good boy
Per Staff 5/25/24:
Buddy Boy was very excited to go out! He greeted with soft eyes and a wagging tail. When the handler opened the door he jumped up and pushed the door hard, trying to get out. The handler was able to keep him contained and leash him easily, and he came right out.
When we got to the eval room Buddy Boy started seeking out toys right away. He's very playful and high energy! He showed that he knows some tricks like "sit" and "catch", but does get a little impatient for treats and will jump for them! He allowed all handling but wouldn't stay still and was pretty aroused throughout. He allowed some all over pets but was more interested in toys and play than pets and cuddles. Overall, a very active, high energy guy that just wants to have fun! Gets aroused and hyped up easily with play and toys. Gets pretty jumpy.
LOVES toys, especially stuffed toys. Likes to grab and shake. Gets aroused and hyped easily with play and toys. Accepts a trade pretty easily for treats.
Playgroup 12/30/23: Rough/Rowdy. Humpy at times, but able to be redirected. Takes correction well from other dogs. Buddy was also very responsive to human requests for redirection. He did well with several different males.
Per Staff 12/26/23: Buddy seems to get in a conflict with another large male dog every time he is in playgroup. He does great with the females but has had several issues with other male dogs on separate occasions (different male dogs). He seems to do okay with other submissive/smaller males. Play Style: Rough/Rowdy

Buddy was a playgroup rockstar! He played appropriately and welcomed all dogs nicely. He had a rough and rowdy play style and enjoyed romping around

Buddy attended play group on 12/12 and was described as being social, high energy, playful, and minorly obnoxious
Per Staff 12/13/23:
When I approached Buddy's kennel, He was standing on his bed looking at me. He would only walk around in a circle then back on the bed looking at me.
Per Staff 12/13/23:
Buddy was standing at the front of his kennel loose and wiggly, and stayed at the front while he was easily leashed. Exited without issue.
Buddy is very high energy. He came in the eval room and ran around a bit, approaching me with full body wiggles and a fast mid-high level wagging tail. He leaned in for butt scratches, then threw himself on top of me while I sat down. He climbed all over my lap and was jumping all over me. He did not calm down easily, and I had to stand up so he'd stop ramming into me. When I sat back down and ignored him he sat at my feet and started shrieking at me. He is quite demanding and does not enjoy being ignored. When I stood up he began mouthing at my hands. He was easily redirected when I turned away from him but continued to be quite jumpy. When another handler came in he greeted them with wiggles but again was very jumpy and a bit mouthy. No interest in treats. Jumpy and mouthy -does self soothe with toys at times.
