princess nene

Nene is a 3 year old 40lb lil shortstack pittie mix so sweet we named her Princess Nene! She is the cutest little thing and her little white face and matching white eyelashes will instantly melt your heart. Follow along on her post-shelter life at @AdoptPrincessNene on Facebook!

We believe Nene spent most of her life unhoused, living in shelters, parks and squatter homes. Because of this, when she goes to a new home, she may need more time than most dogs to adjust and feel secure. She has been at BelLA's rescue ranch for 6 weeks and has made excellent progress! In the beginning, she would constantly assess the threat level when entering the house and bark when people opened doors and entered the room she was in. While she has stopped doing this; however, these behaviors may temporarily revert back when she goes to a new home. She will also need a little more time to bond with you and gain your trust. She will need to be slowly introduced to visitors that come over.

While these are things that will need to be initially managed in a new home, her past created positive traits too! Like, she is an excellent listener, has solid recall and is always checking in to see if you are following her. Once she trusts you, she will be your best friend! She's the sweetest cuddliest dog. Other than the things mentioned, she's ready to put her past behind her. She is a happy little squirt. 

Nene is potty trained, crate trained, and very playful! She throws her toys up in the air and plays with herself! She does ok on car rides (she's a little anxious starting out, but that goes away). She pulls a little on leash, but with the right harness on, we've had very enjoyable walks. 

While she is non-reactive to dogs on walks and passed a dog-dog test (she seemed scared at first and a bit hesitant and/or didn't know how to play) at this time, we think she'd thrive best as an only dog in a child-free, pet-free home.

After everything she's been through, Nene deserves her princess fairy tale ending! She is seeking a loving, patient foster home without a lot of commotion going on or a family to adopt her in the Minneapolis metro area or Central MN.
