Meet Bronco 

Bronco is an almost 3-year-old German Rottweiler with approximately 80 pounds of muscle, sweetness, and absolutely no respect for personal space. His favorite place is wherever his people are, preferably close enough to supervise everything they do. He originally landed at animal control after learning how to open his apartment door and taking himself into the hallway to find company. Criminal mastermind? Maybe. Lonely extrovert with thumbs-adjacent problem-solving skills? Definitely..

In his foster home, Bronco has been incredibly calm, patient, affectionate, and smart. He has done wonderfully with young children who are being taught to interact with him respectfully, and he has been especially patient when the smaller residents occasionally forget that toddlers are supposed to have boundaries. Because Bronco is a large, strong dog, continued supervision and respectful kid-and-dog manners will be important. 

Bronco is also a quick learner. After being shown his “spot” only twice, he figured out exactly where he was supposed to settle in the family room. He listens well when redirected, although he continues to make a compelling legal argument for couch privileges using only his eyes. Thus far, the court has denied his appeal. 

He does experience separation anxiety, but he has already shown that he can settle. During one absence, he whined and barked intermittently before calming down after about 30 minutes and remaining comfortable in his crate. His foster family is helping him learn that the crate is a safe place, not dog jail, and he will need an adopter committed to continuing that work with patience and consistency. A secure, heavy-duty crate is recommended because Bronco has both strength and opinions.

Bronco has been doing well on leash and currently enjoys at least two easy, 20-to-30-minute walks each day. He is strong, but with continued training and consistency, he has all the ingredients to become a fantastic walking buddy. His previous owner shared that he loves car rides, fetch, water, playing, and hanging out with his humans. 

He previously had a positive dog evaluation, but his excitement can be a lot when meeting another dog, so slow, structured introductions are important. His history with cats is unknown. He is currently taking medication for kennel cough and will also need to be neutered.

And now, the disclaimer no vacuum company paid us to provide: Bronco sheds. A lot. His fur has apparently achieved independent travel and can be found in rooms he has never entered. Regular brushing, grooming, and acceptance of a light Rottweiler-based garnish on your belongings will be part of the package.

Bronco is a giant love bug who wants guidance, consistency, and a family to call his own. He would thrive with someone comfortable handling a strong working or power breed and willing to keep building his confidence when left alone. In return, Bronco promises loyalty, excellent companionship, impressive listening skills, and enough fur to construct a backup Bronco.
