Meet kaya

Kaya’s whole world changed overnight when she lost the only home she had ever known. After her family’s other dog passed away, they decided they were simply “done” with having dogs — leaving this sweet senior girl heartbroken, and starting over far later in life than she ever should have had to. But despite it all, Kaya remains nothing but gentle, loving, and grateful for kindness. This precious girl has settled beautifully into foster care and has become deeply attached to her foster mama, happily following her from room to room just to be close. Kaya isn’t demanding or high maintenance — she simply wants a soft place to rest, a calm home, and someone to love for the rest of her days.Kaya is wonderful with other dogs, does well with cats, and would be happiest in a quieter home with older children who understand and respect senior dogs. Most of the time, she’s content curled up beside you, peacefully napping while you go about your day. She’s the kind of companion whose quiet presence brings comfort to a home. She is fully house trained, crate trained, and truly a very easy girl to live with. While she doesn’t need a crate, she’ll happily sleep in one if asked. Kaya walks nicely on leash, rides beautifully in the car, and will simply curl up on a blanket and drift off to sleep during trips.Even at her age, Kaya still has adorable little sparks of playfulness. She loves chewing on bully bones, carrying around tennis balls, and occasionally breaking into a happy little run — even if it sometimes ends with a tiny tumble before she pops right back up again.Kaya does have a mild heart murmur and takes medication daily, which she will likely need for the remainder of her life. She has been thoroughly evaluated by a veterinarian, however, and has been deemed healthy, comfortable, and absolutely able to travel north for the loving forever home she deserves. After losing everything familiar, Kaya deserves a family who will never give up on her again — someone who will treasure her gentle soul, spoil her rotten, and make the rest of her life the safest and happiest chapter yet.Name: KayaBreed: Rat Terrier/Crossbreed   (Breed mix is not guaranteed-no DNA testing done).Sex: FemaleAge: 11 years  (estimated)Weight: 18.0Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: Over 12Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: YesAdoption Fee: $150.00  (includes transport fee when applicable)                       $100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee for Massachusetts residents.Location of dog currently:    Texas  IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher.
