Butter Ball ACCT-A-246729 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Butter Ball must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or ADOPTER by WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29TH at 10AM. Should Butter Ball's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Butter Ball came into ACCT Philly as a stray on April 3rd. He is a social, affectionate guy who loves people and makes it known. He's wiggly, cuddly, and genuinely happy to be near his people — he'll lean in for pets, offer kisses, and sit contentedly beside you like he's always belonged there. He's shown some knowledge of basic commands like sit and takes treats gently. In playgroup, he's engaged and enthusiastic with other dogs and has a great time in the yard. He does get excited and can be mouthy and jumpy when overstimulated, and he pulls on leash — both manageable with a well-fitted no-pull harness and some training classes. He's best suited for an adult-only home with an experienced, active owner who can give him the structure and guidance he's ready to grow into. Due to his length of stay, Butter Ball is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, experienced foster, or adopter.

NEW! Per staff 4/28: "Butter Ball went on leash easily, pulled somewhat through kennel and yard, destuffed multiple toys in yard, went back in kennel easily."
Per staff 4/26: Rowdy & jumpy, but still easy to leash. Trying to push past you when leashing. Walked nicely on the leash. No pulling, pulled mildly. Yes, I handled the dog. Excited, jumping on you... loves chasing the ball in the yard Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue.
Summary of walksheet notes 4/19: Butterball is a strong, sweet, and social boy with medium energy who enjoys interacting with people and other dogs. Per volunteer 4/15: I had Butterball out for the first time last night. What a sweet, fun pup. He pulls a bit on the way out of the kennel but just because he needed to go to the bathroom. He loves playing with stuffed animals and balls in the yard. He loves to sit with his person and get pets and gives kisses! He was easy to leash and handle and returned easily to his kennel.
Per staff 4/14: Added an adult home only preferred just because there’s multiple references to slight over stimulation and some mouthing. He’s a big boy that is strong and needs a good no pull harness and some training classes. Could go to a very experienced foster.
Per staff 4/6: Butter Ball was laying in his kennel on his bed when I approached and he got up slowly and I threw a treat through the kennel and he ate it immediately. He had his ears forward, soft eyes, and tail high and wagging faster as I threw in another treat. I opened the door and he was excited to get out and I kept my foot at the door since he was pawing a bit. Very easy to leash and came out excited and ignored other dogs next to him. Pulled moderately on the leash, peed and pooped as soon as we got outside, showing off he knows housetraining. As we got around the welcome center he raised his hackles a bit and got stiff and had a high tail but was easy to redirect his attention with treats. Very sweet with the adopters in the meet and allowed all over handling. Mouthy once he gets overstimulated but very sweet and loves to give hugs.
Per finder 4/6: Butter Ball was found running loose down the street. He was friendly when approached and excitable. He was scanned at a vet for a microchip, which was negative, but he remained friendly and tolerant for the entire process. While at the vet, Butter Ball was friendly with various staff members allowing all handling and very social. He pulled moderately on the leash and was a strong boy so he may benefit from a harness! He did well in the car ride and enjoyed looking out the window. While with us he allowed all over handling without any issues remaining loose, wiggly, and leaning in to solicit further pets. When handling him he allowed all handling including his belly, legs, paw pads, ears, touching near his mouth, and even near his hotspots on his back. He would get a bit overstimulated at times, but never attempted to mount. He would lightly mouth at us when excited, but was easy to redirect with treats. He took treats gently and showed knowledge of sit as well. Overall he was a very friendly and happy boy!
Per staff 4/5: Observed him coming out to playgroup, he was extremely strong on the slip leash and pulling hard, tail was high and straining on the leash, heavy panting, overall appeared to be highly aroused. Approached multiple people with loose and affiliative body language. Appeared to have a great time in the yard. Would benefit from some basic behavior training and better equipment for handling him like a well fitted no-pull body harness. Leveling to blue.
Per staff 4/3, playgroup: Steerable with water and shake can (5/10). Fast entry into yard, launching right into lots of push/pull and some rough/rowdy play with Peaches especially.
Per staff 4/3: Very wiggly, solicited attention, didn't enjoy restraints.
Per finder 4/3: Fulls when overstimulated but friendly. Friendly, cuddly, playful, aroused but very friendly.
