Meet giacamo
Giacamo came to ACCT Philly as a stray on May 26th and although he was a little shy at first, it didn't take long for his sweet personality to shine through. Within minutes, he was leaning into staff for pets. Since then, Giacamo has proven himself to be an easygoing, low-energy companion who seems happiest simply being close to his people. He walks beautifully on leash without pulling, appears to be housetrained, and is consistently described as calm, gentle, and affectionate. Whether he's pressing his head into your lap, leaning against your legs for comfort, rolling over for belly rubs, or settling in for a cuddle session, Giacamo has a special talent for making every moment feel a little softer.
While he can be a bit shy when meeting new people and may need a little extra time to warm up, his affectionate nature quickly takes over. Volunteers and staff alike describe him as a "snuggle bug," "the best dog in here," and a sweet, sensitive soul who loves attention from the people he trusts. Giacamo has also shown polite social skills with other dogs. He's had positive interactions both on leash and in playgroups, offering gentle greetings and playful bows. He has also demonstrated patience and appropriate responses, even in more challenging social situations.
Because he can be initially reserved with unfamiliar people, any prospective family should meet him together so he can get comfortable with everyone at once. He would do best with children 10 years and older who can respect his sensitive nature and allow him to settle in at his own pace. If you're looking for a calm, loyal companion who asks for little more than kindness, cuddles, and a cozy spot by your side, Giacamo may be the perfect match.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per foster 6/22: 6/22: Hi there! Giacamo is an absolute gem. He's settling in well and starting to open up and show his playful side! Still very calm in the house but getting comfy. Once he settled in, he stopped following me to each room and is fine staying cozied up on the couch while I do things around the house. He hasn't needed a crate at all. Zero accidents in the house and doesn't go into destruction mode. Loves car rides and exploring new places. Walks incredibly well on leash and while he can't walk too long in this heat (and with the kennel cough), he absolutely loves when we can take smaller walks more frequently. If you're looking for the vibe of "sipping my coffee in the morning on a relaxing stroll with the doggo" Gio is your guy. My job is dog-friendly and I was able to take Gio in the evening when no one was there and it was quiet. He LOVED it. He was all smiles and actually gave me his first little run- it was so cute. He's a mellow fellow but starting to open up and is so curious about the world around him when we're out and about.
Per volnteer 6/15: Per Volunteer: I was involved with an adoption meet (they are still deciding) and he did so well. He was easy to leash, walked well on the leash and hopped right back into his kennel when finished. Due to the photoshoot, we passed multiple dogs and people and he passed them calmly (seemed to barely notice the activity). During the meet, he was so well behaved-truly impressive. I was very cautious with him as I heard that he could be nervous (did not experience this). He was receptive to the male, sat right in front of the family, enjoyed snuggling with their young (maybe 12-14) daughter and leaned in often for pets. He was very gentle with treats too. He was the easiest dog that I had out all day and I am hopeful that someone will soon see how gentle and eager for love this sweet boy is. I give his Adoption Meet 10/10.
Walksheet notes: Giacomo was walked once on 6/9 and 6/11 with no issues and noted to have low energy both days. On 6/10 she was walked with no issues, noted as low energy and noted by handler “good on leash, easy to walk. Sat for treats” on 6/12 giacomo had no issues except mild shyness, noted low energy and handler wrote “STarteled by sounds (poop bag and motorcyvlle), got a little stiff when a member of the public approached. Took treats gently and solicited attention but did lip lick and yawn a few times while being pet.
Per staff 6/12: Giacamo was laying on his bed when approached in kennel, slowly rose and approached the door. He was easily leashed and came out of kennel nicely. He walked calmly in pace with his handler through the kennels and relieved himself once outside. He was a little aloof on leash and preferred to sniff the surroundings. He got startled by the sound of a poop bag rustling and then later by a motorcycle. He also got a little stiff when a member of the public attempted to approach but continued walking with his handler with very light leash pressure. Once in the yard, his demeanor softened and he sat for treats and took them extremely gently. He also started soliciting attention and preferred to stay close to his handlers. He liked leaning in for pets, rubbing his body along your legs, and allowed all over petting. Even after his handler stopped petting, he continued to solicit attention. After about 5 minutes of petting, he did a few subtle lip licks and yawned. Staff took that as a cue to stop petting and walked him back to the shelter. He again walked in pace with his handler and went into kennel with no issues.

Per volunteer 6/10: Low energy. Good on leash, easy to walk, sat for treats.
Per volunteer 6/9: Low energy. Good dog meet thru fence. Snuggle bug! Just wanted to sit and be pet. Very sweet! Gentle.

Per staff 6/8: Meeting Chewy: Respectful, short choppy zoomies moments intermittently. Tolerant of his attempt to hump.
Per staff 6/8: Low energy. Easy walker. Good meet with Chewy. Tolerated all handling.
Per volunteer 6/5: Low energy. Scared at first then opens up. Loves affection and belly rubs. Very easy to handle.
Per volunteer 6/2: Low energy. The best dog in here. So calm.
Per staff 6/2: Other dog tried to paw at and growled at Giacamo who first had very loose body language and saw the other dog staring him down. After the other dog growled and rushed the fence a bit he did a low growl from a distance but then tried to play after a shake off. Very tolerant of a dog who didn't like him!
Per staff 6/2: Low energy. Easy walker, softie, affectionate. Met several new people and was loose and relaxed for everybody. Definitely seems housetrained.
Per volunteer 6/1: Easy to leash, came right to the front. Walked nicely on the leash, no pulling. Calm and sweet. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue.
Per volunteer 6/1: Low-medium energy. Calm and gentle. Easy walker. Housetrained.
Per staff 5/31, playgroup: Not steerable 0 with can and 1 with water. Mid tail wags, ears back at the gate. Good greetings in the yard, engaged in some push pull play with Starfish. Gentle dainty, mingled around, gave some good play bows. Started to get vocal and fun police towards the end of the time in the yard.
Per volunteer 5/31: Low energy. Went back in so easily! Cuddler.
Per volunteer 5/29: He was a joy to take out today! He was very content to spend the whole time outside just snuggling. He was the best snuggle companion and he even relaxed in to a belly rub with me.
Per volunteer 5/29: Low energy. Great dog. No pulling. Likes pets.
Per volunteer 5/28: Giacamo was easy in and out of his kennel. Once we got to the yard, his body remained loose. When I sat on the bench, he jumped up with his front paws and put his head in my lap, accepting lots of pets. If I got down on his level on the ground, he leaned his body against mine. He didn't take any treats. He was noticeably different towards a male volunteer that joined us in the yard. He completely avoided the male volunteer in the yard and did not make any eye contact with him. Despite myself (female vol) and the male vol making the same noises, talking in baby walk, and presenting treats, Giacamo did not leave my side to go towards the male.
Per volunteer 5/28: Low energy. Good dog met. Great dog, so calm, no pulling.
Per staff 5/27: Slow walk up to the fence. Wide eyes, ears to the side with tail down and slow tail wags. Did a leash meet, due to lower energy than Brown Butter. Good greetings, slight hackles raised. Moved away on his own, did a shake off and did not re-approach.
Per staff 5/27: Slightly shy. Low energy. Good on leash meet with Brown Butter.
Per staff 5/27:
Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed when I approached his kennel. He sat up, however did not come forward. Soft/wide eyes with ears to the side.
Leash Skills: He remained on the bed when I opened the door. I tossed a treat and he came a little forward. I was able to leash while he was on the bed and once leash he slowly came out. Walked on a loose leash.
Sociability: He is flinchy with over the head movements. I went slow and crouched down, he came over to me and sat right in front of me. When I stopped petting he moved close and leaning his body into my legs. Gave low tail wags when I would baby talk to him.
Dog Interaction: Met Saranda through the fence. On leash meet with Mr Bubbs. Tolerant and avoidant.
Return to Kennel: Went right into the kennel and sat on the bed. Removed leash with hand.
Color Level: Exp Gold
Recommendations and considerations: Whole family must meet. Kids 10+ due to sensitive to handling.
Per staff 5/26: Upon arrival at the shelter, Giacamo was head shy meeting people at first. He took a few minutes but warmed up and leaned into me and a few others for pets. Very tolerant during intake exam, only needed a light bear hug. Very sweet boy.
Per staff 5/26: We were able to remove him from the trap with a leash, and once secured, he eased out with soft eyes and a lowered head. He walked well back to the truck, not pulling, and hopped right into the van.
