Penelope Has Arrived in Wisconsin and Is Looking for Her Forever Home

Penelope arrived in Wisconsin on March 14, 2026 and is currently settling into her foster home with Mutt Life Dog Rescue. She is doing well and is now ready to find a loving forever family.

Meet Penelope

Penelope is an approximately 3–4-year-old, 50-pound Labrador mix who spent about two years with our rescue partners before making the trip to Wisconsin. She is a super sweet, friendly girl who loves to play and is excited to start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own.

Penelope is great with dogs and children, but she is not cat friendly. She has an affectionate personality and enjoys attention, always happy to interact with her people.

Because she spent time in a foster home before arriving in Wisconsin, Penelope is already potty trained, crate trained, and working on her leash manners.

She was originally scheduled to travel on a previous transport but tested a weak positive for heartworms. Penelope has since been fully treated and is now healthy, happy, and ready to find the loving home she deserves. She is spayed and would thrive in a home where she can enjoy playtime, companionship, and lots of love.

Adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter procedure, up-to-date dewormer, vaccinations, heartworm prevention (age appropriate), and certified veterinarian inspection within 30 days of adoption.

ADOPTION PROCESS:
1.) Apply: Fill out an adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents.

2.) Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email.

3.) Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: After approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5-day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure it's the right fit.

4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue.

5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process, we conduct a home visit either in person or via Zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have.

6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter. The procedure MUST be done at HAWS Snip Clinic in Waukesha, WI, or Wisconsin Community Veterinarian Center in Madison, WI. If you would like to go through your veterinarian or another location, we will reimburse $125 once we receive proof of the procedure. We recommend spay/neuter around 6 months old.
