Meet banana bread

Meet Banana Bread — a sweet, sensitive girl who is ready for a soft place to land after a difficult start. Banana Bread was found tied to a telephone pole in postpartum condition, and it’s clear she’s still learning that the world can be kind again. In the shelter, she can feel overwhelmed at first, but with a calm approach and a little patience, she warms up and shows her gentle nature. She’s very food motivated, knows how to sit, and does best when things move slowly and predictably.

Banana Bread walks at an easy pace and often checks in with her handler for reassurance. She appears to be house trained and is more of a low-energy companion who prefers quiet exploration over playtime right now. Because she’s still decompressing, she may seem aloof at first, but with consistency and kindness, she has the potential to blossom into a loyal, loving companion. Banana Bread would thrive in a patient home that understands nervous dogs and can help her continue building confidence — and in return, she’s ready to offer sweetness, resilience, and a whole lot of heart.

Behavior Notes:
Per staff 2/2/26: I will eat toys!! Please counsel on this if adopted

Walksheet as of 1/24:
1/23: Banana Bread was walked twice, noted to have low energy, but very sweet. They are house trained, but also nervous, so the handler noted to go slow. However they also noted Banana Bread is very food motivated .

Per volunteer 1/23/26: Kennel Presentation: the first time I walked over, banana bread was lunging at the front of the kennel, paws up and barking. Many of her neighbors were aroused as well. I looped around and returned to her laying down at the back of her crate. I started to baby talk and threw treats in the kennel. She slowly stood up and walked towards me. She ate the treats. She looked up at me with wide eyes. I slipped the lead in and was able to leash her.

Leash Skills: she walked slowly outside looking back at me often. She kept her body low to the ground. On the way back in, she pulled moderately to strongly.

Sociability: Did not solicit attention. Did sniff the handler but largely aloof and overall mostly interested in exploring. Knows sit. Some paw lifting and lip licking. Seems very food motivated but very snatchy.

Play: no interest

Dog Interaction: n/a

Return to Kennel: I threw a treat in and she followed. No issue.

Color Level: experienced blue

Recommendations and considerations: could consider leveling down if kennel presence improves and warms up to handling

Per finder 1/21/26: Found tied to a telephone pole, pulls towards other dogs, pulled a bit on leash, friendly, shy
