lute

Philadelphia, PA

Meet lute

Lute is a high-energy, wiggly, and loving boy who was found as a stray by the police. He’s a social pup who loves people, play, and treats, and he has a big personality that will keep you smiling. Lute is eager to engage and is very toy- and treat-motivated, making him highly trainable with someone willing to help him channel his energy.

While he can be a bit excitable at first—pulling on leash or jumping up—he settles down quickly once he has time to adjust to new surroundings. Lute is playful and affectionate, often leaning in for pets and wiggling with excitement. He’s confident, curious, and enjoys exploring his environment, but he can become overstimulated in certain settings, so he’ll do best in a home that can provide plenty of exercise, structured play, and guidance to help him practice patience.

Lute is house-trained, knows basic commands like “sit,” and is neutral with other dogs. He has a playful, loving nature, and with the right family who can meet his physical and mental needs, he’ll be a loyal and joyful companion.

Behevaior Notes:
Per staff 11/4/25:
Kennel Presentation: Lute was at the front with a wagging tail, loose body and soft eyes. he allowed me to reach in with the leash before trying to push out many times. he was a bit difficult to secure but once secured came right out.

Leash Skills: pulls minimal to moderate

Sociability: in the room lute sniffed around from the leftover enrichment maze and allowed me to touch him while he had a toy and remained neutral with a low wagging tail. when i called for him he jumped up on me and stretched out, he allowed all handling and knew sit when i offered him a treat. he whines when i offered it to him, waiting for me to toss it. he is very snatchy and will try to take more treats even when your hand is empty. he is a super wiggly and high energy boy.

Play: engaged in play

Dog Interaction: n/a

Return to Kennel: on the way back pancaked and needed some leash pressure to keep walking

Per day trip 11/1:
He was a nearly perfect dog the whole time. Once he has had a few minutes to adjust to a new surrounding, he settles in and is less excitable. He howls and cries in the car a lot but gets in easily. He didn't pull on the leash much once he settled into his walk. He does want to jump on people, but he got better with this as the walk went on. He's very treat-motivated and loving and was interested in but not aggressive with other dogs.

My only note is when I took him to my backyard, and my husband came out, he growled and barked at my husband, but his tail was wagging. He accepted treats from my husband, and this stopped the growling and barking, but he did become overly stimulated then and was really jumping up on me, getting as high as my face - but there was no growling or snapping - just too much energy. He also tried to hump me a bit, too, then. But as soon as I got him out of my yard and walking around the neighborhood, he was back to being perfect, so it really was the setting/situation that seemed to do it to him. All in all, he's a great dog who just needs people who will give him exercise and help him with being more patient/managing overstimulation. He's very trainable!

Per staff 10/30/25 (regarding an adopter): Not moving forward. Lute was jumpy at the front of the kennel but didn't shy away from the leash. Moderate pulling through kennels with neutral-wiggly body, low fast wagging tail, and wide eyes. In the room he mostly ignored the child (2 year old) and maintained the same body language as he did walking through the kennels. While he was jumpy with me and other adults, he did not jump on the child. He was VERY toy motivated and kept chasing the toys the child threw. At one point he did come face-to-face with the child and then turned and continued to ignore him.

After a while he settled with a toy and I noticed his pupils were a bit dilated and his eyes were red. He'd laid down and was chewing on a toy. When an adult in the room attempted to handle him I noticed he stopped chewing. When the adopters gave him room he relaxed and went back to chewing, but he continued to freeze if we approached when he had his toy. He then got overexcited when the child dropped their own toy, so we ended the meet. Spoke with supervisor Josh on the way back and he said it was okay to let Lute keep the toy, so we didn't attempt to get it back. No issues returning. No signs of escalation other than freezing, putting his head over the treat, and dilated pupils with red eyes.

Per staff 10/29/25: Dog is very social and solicits attention
