foxie (in foster)

Foxie is a black and brindle shepherd mix, around two and a half years old and 47 pounds. When she arrived at the shelter, her body showed that she had very recently had puppies. We never learned what became of them. We only know that Foxie came to us having already survived something hard, and that she has spent more than fifteen months waiting for someone to choose her.

After all that time, Foxie finally got a shot at living in a foster home, and she is doing so well. She mastered house training almost immediately. She settled into the rhythm of a house like she had been in one all along. And she is a snuggler. Given the choice between the far end of the couch and the spot right beside you, she takes the spot beside you every time.

Foxie is smart, eager to learn, and deeply connected to her people. On walks she checks in with her person constantly. She does not just want to explore the world, she wants to experience it with you. She is also easy to satisfy. A daily walk, something to work her brain, and time on the couch next to you covers everything she needs.

Her foster home also taught us that she is great with submissive dogs, the calm kind who will not get in her face. She has been gentle with the children she has met. She has not been tested with cats.

Her veterinarian believes her slightly different gait is the result of an old injury. She is pain free and it does not bother her day to day. It does mean she is not a high mileage dog, and that suits her just fine.

Fifteen months is a long time to wait. Foxie is ready whenever you are.
