Meet Rosie Posie fka Sugar Dumpling!
Rosie Posie is as sweet as her name suggests. After spending time in the shelter about a year ago, this affectionate eight-year-old returned to ACCT as a stray on May 9th, and we were unable to get in touch with her previous adopter. Rosie Posie is a social butterfly who greets everyone with a wiggly whole-body welcome, soft eyes, and a tail that never stops wagging. She loves belly rubs, butt scritches, and soaking up attention from anyone willing to give it. She relieves herself promptly outdoors, responds to "sit," and has even been known to offer an adorable double-paw "high five" on request. On leash she pulls mildly, but tends to settle the further you go. In playgroup she's been described as gentle, and dainty, greeting other dogs nicely and offering appropriate corrections to pushy playmates. She's got a rather distinctive hairstyle, which means her ideal home should keep a few cozy sweaters on hand for chilly weather. After all the changes she's experienced, Rosie Posie deserves a home that can give her the stability and companionship she's looking for.

Activities on the Day Trip: We went to Tacony Creek Park and then for a pup cup at Rita’s
Where did you go, and would you recommend it to others? Why or why not? Tacony creek park was lovely, well shaded with nice walking paths and trails. Rita was great to get a pup cup at!
How was the dog’s energy level throughout the trip? 3 / 5
How was the dog in the car? (N/a if no car ride) She was great in the car! She was very calm and loved jumping in and out.
If indoors, did the dog seem house trained? N/A
How comfortable was the dog in new surroundings? Very comfortable
How did the dog react seeing other animals in passing (cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, etc.)? Was excited but did not react
How did the dog react seeing people, such as runners, bikers, or children? She was great! No problems
Describe the dog’s leash manners (e.g., pulls on leash, walks nicely, jumpy, leash biting). The doff was well trained on a leash. Pulled a bit but not overly so.

Please share any information about the dog that would be helpful to know She’s very friendly but is uncertain of new people and did not respond to her name. Her puppy eyes are incredible.

Per volunteer 5/28/26: Low energy. Sweet girl, doesn't like returning, needs to get out more.
Per volunteer 5/27/26: Sugar Dumpling might have a skin condition, or she might be a Xolo mix. Either way, you won't have to deal with a lot of dog hair! This looks like something she has lived with for a long time and it does not seem to bother her, and it doesn't take away from her sparky personality! Sugar Dumpling was EXCITED to come out of her run, and she ran to wherever we were going (she did not know). She was pretty high energy and was more interested in seeing what was going on outside than relaxing (Type A girl, I get it), but she did settle for her massage. She has very cute Dorito ears like a 3 month old puppy has, but she has them forever, and that makes her even cuter.
Per staff 5/20/26: Took Sugar Dumpling out for a dog meet. Easy to leash and came right out. Walked pulling mildly, mid to low loose tail, ears to the side. Met Rascal, good greetings, tolerant, moved away on her own. Walking back walked pulling mildly, low loose tail. Stopped at the start of her row, pulling in the opposite direction of it, ears back, wider eyes. With treats we started moving down the row, tail low, ears back wide eyes. At her kennel she pulled back on the leash and started bucking back on it, wide eyes, ears back, low tail. Offered some treats and she did not eat them. Gave her a second then with a jogging start and mild leash pressure she hopped up into her kennel and pushed her way back out right away, bucking on the leash. Clipped leash and used moderate leash pressure, picking her front half up to return her to kennel. She tried pushing her way out again, had the door blocked with knee and was able to close it. Leveling up to Blue.
Per volunteer 5/15/26:
Kennel Presentation: Loose and wiggly in her kennel, at the front by the door with soft eyes and a soft, open mouth.
Leash Skills: Easy to secure. Moderate pulling through the kennels.
Sociability: Extremely social in the yard. Loves pets, will ask for belly rubs, and enjoys sniffing around. Maintained a loose body throughout interacting with me and another volunteer, soliciting lots of attention. May not know sit, but gives a "double paw" (both paws up like a high five) when you ask for paw. Loves butt scritches! Small bursts of zoomies then calmed down and sniffed around to regulate.
Play: Liked chasing toys, then lost interest and didn't bring them back. Played tug briefly. Allowed us to approach and pet her while she had a toy. When I reached for it, she grunted and ran away, then turned around and waited for me — seemed like she was asking me to chase/play. Allowed me to take the toy when she wasn't actively holding it in her mouth but it was right next to her.
Dog Interaction: Good fence meet with Doodlebob. Very loose body, and lots of interest in him with good sniffs. Some small barks/whines when wanting to say hi. Disengaged when he was gone and came back to us when called.
Return to Kennel: Put on the brakes when we turned into her row. She had wide eyes and began trying to pull in any other direction. Put one foot in to follow a treat lure, then stepped back out. With another high value treat, a step in, and mild leash pressure, got her in the kennel. She tried a bit to push the door when I closed it, but easily pushed back in.
Color Level: Exp gold.
Recommendations and considerations: Exp gold for hesitancy to return.

Per staff 5/30/25: Leveling down to Gold, from Blue. Previous eval had her Blue only because of strongly resisting going to kennel, which she didn't do when I had her out earlier today, nor has she done recently per her most recent notes.
Per staff 5/30/25, playgroup: Steerable with spray bottle, not with shake can. Gave King a battery of corrections in response to his overly forward, rough and rowdy, hectic playstyle. Preferred to wander about on her own, and felt compelled to intervene when King and Goldie Lox got too hectic with their play (running laps, leapfrogging over each other). Removed from the yard fairly early due to its high energy level.
Per staff 5/30/25: 0 issues across the board (leashing, walking through kennel, no problematic shyness, jumpiness, mouthiness). Low-to-medium energy.
Per day trip 5/29/25: Sugar was so so so sweet! She wanted to play and ran like a puppy! She really enjoyed our walk. She took treats very nicely, and showed that she was very gentle. She really was just such a sweetheart. She enjoyed pets and especially loved scratches on her neck. She'd make a great companion for anyone!

Per volunteer 5/25/26: Sugar Dumpling peed and pooped immediately when we got outside, she pulled pretty strong until we got outside so she could go to the bathroom so she is definitely trying to stay house trained. She may do better with a harness but the further we walked the better she was on the leash. She takes treats pretty decently but is also an expert treat catcher. She showed me she knows sit as well. I sat down with her and started petting her and she just sat and got pets while she could. She seemed very content with the attention she was getting and just looked around while I pet her. She's super soft even with her hair loss. Sugar Dumpling is a good girl. She also has adorable head tilts. Even though she is listed as 7 years old she has a ton of life left, she's such a happy girl lucky girl and her tail never stops wagging.

Per owner surrender notes 5/22/25: Surrendering due to a change in daily schedule and inability to dedicate enough time. Sugar Dumpling was mostly housebroken with occasional accidents, and had never been crate trained. Medium energy, pulls a little on leash, and was walked three times a day for 15–20 minutes. Given unlimited food, favorite snacks are cheese and peanut butter. Responds to sit, her name, "off," and "no." Favorite activities include napping and being petted. Likes balls. Gets into the trash and has occasional accidents in the house. Tried to bite but didn't make contact. Reacts super friendly toward strangers; unknown history with children, other dogs, and cats. High prey drive toward wildlife. Ideal home would be someone who can really dedicate time to her. The best thing about her is she loves to just lay around.
Per owner 4/22/25: I had a friend who informed me that my dog heavily growled at him and almost bit him 2 in the morning for taking his basketball back from her.
Sugar Dumpling was adopted on 4/16/25.
Walksheet as of 4/7/25: Sugar Dumpling was taken for a walk on March 21st, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st, April 4th, 5th, and 6th. During their walk on March 21st, Sugar Dumpling was noted to have significant issues going into the kennel, mild issues with jumpiness, and a medium to low energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted that this was an evaluation, and stated that they had a 'good dog meet', and noted that they had an 'easy going' temperament, but 'a bit snatchy'. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on March 28th, no issues were noted, but their handler noted that they 'don't like to go back', likely referring to Sugar Dumpling having trouble with re-entering their kennel. During their walk on March 29th, Sugar Dumpling's handler did not note any behaviors or leave comments. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on March 30th, they were noted to have moderate issues going through the kennel area, significant issues going into the kennel, and a high energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted they are 'strong' and 'fights to go back in'. During Sugar Dumpling's walks on March 31st and April 4th, no notes on behaviors were provided, and no issues were noted. During their walk on April 5th, Sugar Dumpling's handler noted no behavioral issues, but did mark that they were of high energy. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on April 6th, no issues were noted, and they were found to be of a medium energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted they were good on the leash.

Kennel Presentation: When I approached the kennel, Sugar Dumpling ran right to the front. She had soft eyes and a slow mid-level tail wag. I was able to easily leash her and she jumped out of the kennel.
Leash Skills: Minimal pulling — mostly loose leash walking, some pulling when other dogs are near or in sight.
Handling: Sugar Dumpling and I spent time both outside in the yard and inside the volunteer office. She pulled minimally on leash to get outside. She sniffed through our walk to the run. She peed and pooped within a few minutes of being outside so it's likely she has some level of house training. In the yard, she mostly explored. She slowly walked around the yard while sniffing. She did come when called and accepted some pets. She whined and went to the fence when other dogs walked back but she seemed to lose interest quickly. She accepted hotdogs from me and was minimally snatchy. She had loose body language and a mid level wagging tail. We went for a walk along with Rosey around the parking lot. On the walk, she pulled a bit more than previously. She seemed minimally interested in Rosey but her body language was loose and she continued to have a mid level tail wag. She went in to sniff Rosey a few times but lost interest quickly. After the brief walk along, we went into the volunteer office. In the office I threw a ball to see if she would be interested in playing, she chased the ball and examined it but never took possession. She did not seem to know sit and did jump up for treats. She greeted the other volunteers and staff in the office and accepted pets all over. She walked well over to the kennel but then planted when I opened the door and encouraged her to step in. I tried to throw hotdogs in but she did not follow. I tried to step in with her but she continued to be frozen. Asked a staff member to assist. Leashed her back end and lifted her in together.
Play: No interest.
Toys: Minimal interest. Did not take possession.
Color Level and any recommendations: Blue — only due to her strong resistance to return to kennel.

MEDICAL NOTES:
Sugar Dumpling has a medical waiver for chronic hair loss affecting most of her body, including her back and ears. The underlying cause has not been definitively diagnosed and may be related to allergies, a hormonal condition, or another cause. This condition does not require treatment at this time, but her adopter or rescue should be aware it may require management.

Sugar Dumpling was adopted on 4/16/25.
Walksheet as of 4/7/25: Sugar Dumpling was taken for a walk on March 21st, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st, April 4th, 5th, and 6th. During their walk on March 21st, Sugar Dumpling was noted to have significant issues going into the kennel, mild issues with jumpiness, and a medium to low energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted that this was an evaluation, and stated that they had a 'good dog meet', and noted that they had an 'easy going' temperament, but 'a bit snatchy'. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on March 28th, no issues were noted, but their handler noted that they 'don't like to go back', likely referring to Sugar Dumpling having trouble with re-entering their kennel. During their walk on March 29th, Sugar Dumpling's handler did not note any behaviors or leave comments. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on March 30th, they were noted to have moderate issues going through the kennel area, significant issues going into the kennel, and a high energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted they are 'strong' and 'fights to go back in'. During Sugar Dumpling's walks on March 31st and April 4th, no notes on behaviors were provided, and no issues were noted. During their walk on April 5th, Sugar Dumpling's handler noted no behavioral issues, but did mark that they were of high energy. During Sugar Dumpling's walk on April 6th, no issues were noted, and they were found to be of a medium energy level. Sugar Dumpling's handler noted they were good on the leash.
Per volunteer 3/28/25: No issues noted, doesn't like to go back.
Per staff 3/22/25: A bit stressed and whining and friendly and allowed handling.
Per volunteer 3/21/25:
Kennel Presentation: When I approached the kennel, Sugar Dumpling ran right to the front. She had soft eyes and a slow mid-level tail wag. I was able to easily leash her and she jumped out of the kennel.
Leash Skills: Minimal pulling — mostly loose leash walking, some pulling when other dogs are near or in sight.
Handling: Sugar Dumpling and I spent time both outside in the yard and inside the volunteer office. She pulled minimally on leash to get outside. She sniffed through our walk to the run. She peed and pooped within a few minutes of being outside so it's likely she has some level of house training. In the yard, she mostly explored. She slowly walked around the yard while sniffing. She did come when called and accepted some pets. She whined and went to the fence when other dogs walked back but she seemed to lose interest quickly. She accepted hotdogs from me and was minimally snatchy. She had loose body language and a mid level wagging tail. We went for a walk along with Rosey around the parking lot. On the walk, she pulled a bit more than previously. She seemed minimally interested in Rosey but her body language was loose and she continued to have a mid level tail wag. She went in to sniff Rosey a few times but lost interest quickly. After the brief walk along, we went into the volunteer office. In the office I threw a ball to see if she would be interested in playing, she chased the ball and examined it but never took possession. She did not seem to know sit and did jump up for treats. She greeted the other volunteers and staff in the office and accepted pets all over. She walked well over to the kennel but then planted when I opened the door and encouraged her to step in. I tried to throw hotdogs in but she did not follow. I tried to step in with her but she continued to be frozen. Asked a staff member to assist. Leashed her back end and lifted her in together.
Play: No interest.
Toys: Minimal interest. Did not take possession.
Color Level and any recommendations: Blue — only due to her strong resistance to return to kennel.
Per staff 3/21/25: Sweet and exuberant girl.
Per staff 3/20/25: Extremely friendly, loves cheese, allowed all over handling.
Per finder 3/20/25: Dog was hit by a car. Friendly.
MEDICAL NOTES:
Sugar Dumpling has a medical waiver for chronic hair loss affecting most of her body, including her back and ears. The underlying cause has not been definitively diagnosed and may be related to allergies, a hormonal condition, or another cause. This condition does not require treatment at this time, but her adopter or rescue should be aware it may require management.
