Meet Marceline!

Marceline, formerly known as Tallulah, is a 64lb, 4-year old Labrador Retriever/Greyhound mix

that has just been waiting for you to take her home.

This wonderful girl is house trained, crate trained, and loves car rides. She is spayed and current

on shots. At 4 years young, she is past the puppy drama, but still has enough energy and mischief

to keep life interesting. Marceline can be a bit shy, but once she has warmed up, she is a very

sweet and affectionate girl who thrives on attention, pets, and cuddles.

TRAINING: Marceline already knows sit, down, and paw! She has a solid foundation of leash

manners, but is still working on not pulling when she sees something interesting, so she will need

someone who is stable on their feet to keep working with her! She is also working on her

manner-manners (no begging, going to her place, waiting at doorways, holding sits/downs) as

well as a few fun tricks (riding in a bike carriage, roll over, spin). Marceline is treat-motivated

and learns quickly. She is very attuned to her handler and trains well. She would benefit from

on-going and consistent training.

OTHER DOGS: Marceline does well with other dogs after properly managed slow

introductions. She can be a bit timid or over excited when meeting new dogs, but calms down

with slow introductions. That being said, she loves her canine friends! She would benefit from a

confident and calm resident dog who could play with her and help her learn her new house and

routine. She would also do well as your one-and-only, where she could soak up all your love!

CATS AND KIDS: As for cats, Marceline has not met any yet while in foster, so they are

unknown. She does show interest in squirrels, especially when they dart in front of her, but

redirects fairly easily. She may do well with a dog-savvy cat after very slow and monitored

introductions. Marceline hasn’t met any children directly, but walked past many kids and

families in tight quarters with no reaction. She may do well with older children. A house with

younger children may not suit her, if only because she forgets how big she is and could topple

smaller children by accident.

HANDLING: Handling-wise, Marceline is very tolerant of all-over touch. She will squirm when

she doesn’t like something (cleaning ears, brushing teeth, etc), but has not growled or otherwise

issued warnings. Marceline can be a bit flighty, especially in new situations that she is

uncomfortable with, and will need a handler who is committed to building her confidence with

new people, situations, and experiences.

WALKS: On walks, Marceline prefers quieter areas with less new people or noises. She really

enjoys sniffing and is very happy when she gets a leisurely walk full of stops so she can sniffeverything. Loud streets, busy trails, and too many new things at once overwhelm her and cause

her to become more fearful and stressed. She would likely be a good hiking buddy, or just enjoy

walks in less populated areas. She tends to not respond to treats or commands once

overwhelmed, and needs reassurance that she is ok. Because of her tendency to become

overwhelmed, Marceline is not yet ready for restaurant type activities, but with time, patience,

and training, this may become an activity that she enjoys.

TOYS: As for toys, she doesn’t understand many toys yet. She enjoys her BetterBone chew and

toys with treats inside, like her Kong toy or Barnacle toy. Her favorite toy is her Kong Wobbler,

which she often gets meals from. Marceline really likes food-puzzles, so slow-feeder type bowls,

snuffle matts, or other puzzles would benefit her.

DISLIKES: She does not like loud or large overhead things (a smoke alarm went off and she

was terrified of it). Marceline has also seen a large vulture flying overhead and barked at it with

raised hackles. Marceline may not be the best fit for a farm type environment. She has met a few

farm animals through a fence, and was curious but wary of the cows, and did not seem fond of

the sheep or llamas. She barked at goats.

SEPARATION ANXIETY: Marceline has separation anxiety that we are working on. She

settles better after a sniff walk and/or training sessions, but she will bark loudly when left alone.

Currently, she is crated when I am unable to watch her, and she will bark/howl/cry for 10-20

minutes before settling, even with a peanut-butter filled Kong to entertain her.

When outdoors, Marceline will bark and cry if she is left with other people. When I have asked

friends to hold her for a second while I do a quick task, like refilling water bottles, she will bark

until I return. Being left with other people, or at the least people that she doesn’t know, will still

trigger her separation anxiety. Additionally, Marceline tends to demand-bark when she wants

attention. These barks often become very loud and frequent. Because of this, Marceline would do

better in a house-setting rather than an apartment, where she is currently living.

HOUSE MANNERS: Marceline’s house manners are a work in progress. Marceline is fairly

desensitized to everyday sounds, like car doors slamming, the vacuum cleaner, or other similar

household noises. She rides well in elevators and is a champ at stairs both ways. She enjoys

looking through windows and has not barked at people/things through the windows. She does

have a habit of demand barking when she is not being given attention, and she will dig through

trash and counter-surf if not watched. She also has a bad habit of begging for people food…being

very tall, she can easily rest her head on tables to beg.

IDEAL DAY: Marceline’s ideal day would involve relaxed sniff-walks, fun enrichment

activities, a few training sessions, and time for zoomies! This girl loves to run and she is VERYfast. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal so she could get her zoomies out, but she would

do well without a yard as long as she gets proper exercise and training. She would love to have a

long cuddle and pet session anytime during the day. In the evening, she would enjoy curling up

in her dog bed–or better yet, your bed or your couch–while you read or relax. Above all,

Marceline’s favorite thing to do is be by her person, no matter what they are doing. This girl

cannot wait to meet you and love you for the rest of forever.

Marceline is currently being fostered in Davis, California. Inquiries should be directed to the

rescue.
