Meet Scooter: Age is Just a NumberLadies and gentlemen, please welcome Scooter: a 50-pound brindle bundle of enthusiasm who would like to formally dispute the claim that he is nine years old.Because according to Scooter, nine is the new three.Scooter is the kind of dog who greets you like you have just returned from a seven year expedition when, in reality, you were only gone for 20 minutes. When his people come home, Scooter is ALL IN. The smile. The excitement. The happiness. The whole production. You will never have to wonder whether someone missed you. It's pretty darn wonderful.Scooter's story didn't start out nearly as happily. He was surrendered in Tennessee alongside another dog after his owner, who was living out of his car, could no longer properly care for them. Scooter arrived severely underweight and dealing with skin problems. Thankfully, that chapter is behind him, and this handsome guy is now discovering what life is supposed to be like when you have a soft bed, regular meals, loving humans, and someone who thinks your ridiculous smile is pretty much the best thing ever.Scooter is smart, active, affectionate, loyal, cuddly, and an absolute people-pleaser. He knows sit, paw, and heel, and he is eager to learn more. He LOVES walks and would make an excellent hiking buddy. In fact, fall might have been invented specifically for Scooter: cool temperatures, long walks, changing leaves, and then coming home to snuggle with his favorite human. Add a flannel and a cozy blanket, and Scooter is basically living his best Wisconsin life.He is wonderful with people and gets along with dogs of all kinds. He's also completely housebroken. He doesn't need to be crated, mostly because Scooter has made it abundantly clear that he considers crates more of a suggestion than a lifestyle. He has free roam at his foster home and has done beautifully.When left alone, Scooter may pace and pant because, frankly, he'd prefer that his people stay where he can keep an eye on them. He isn't destructive or a flight risk, and he settles in well with his humans nearby.He's also a bit of a commentator. Scooter used to bark at EVERY. SINGLE. NOISE. A mysterious sound? Bark. Someone entering the room? Bark. The possibility that something somewhere might be happening? Better bark about it. The good news? It's already improving as he gets more comfortable. He's smart, he is learning, and he is settling into his foster home beautifully.What Scooter really needs is someone who wants an active companion and a devoted best friend: someone who will give him daily exercise, walks, hikes, mental stimulation, and plenty of affection. He has energy to spare and would love nothing more than to have a person who wants to actually DO LIFE with their dog. Then when the day's adventures are over, Scooter will happily curl up in his bed on the floor in the same room as his humans, because apparently his preferred sleeping arrangement is simply “wherever my people are.”His walk-out song? “You're My Best Friend” by Queen. Obviously.Because Scooter isn't looking for a complicated life. He wants walks. He wants adventures. He wants a soft place to sleep. He wants his people nearby. He wants to make you laugh with that ridiculous smile. Mostly, he wants to be someone's best friend. And if you're lucky enough to be his person, prepare yourself for the world's most enthusiastic “YOU'RE HOME!!!” every single time you walk through the door.Scooter is approximately 9 years old, 50 pounds, housebroken, dog-friendly, and fostered in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He takes inexpensive levothyroxine twice daily for hypothyroidism.
