Meet Bear! This sweet senior boy is a gentle, laid-back companion with a playful side and plenty of love to give. As he’s settled into his foster home, he’s been showing more and more of his personality—and what a lovely guy he is!

Bear has the most energy in the morning and enjoys a short walk, playing with his toys, or a little game of fetch. He loves going for walks and even enjoys swimming and retrieving a ball or stick from the water. His favorite toy is a stuffed moose, although he also has a funny fascination with chasing reflections from watches or phones when they cast little spots of light on the wall!

Bear is affectionate with the people he trusts and likes to stay close to his chosen person. He doesn’t need to be in your lap or constantly entertained—he’s perfectly content just knowing his person is nearby. He’s happy to coexist with other pets and doesn’t need another animal companion to keep him happy. He’s also fully housetrained, knows several commands including sit, lay down, drop, and shake, typically comes when called, and does well in the car.

Bear does take some time to warm up to new people, particularly adults. He was pretty anxious when he first arrived in his foster home, and unfamiliar people can still make him nervous. He isn’t aggressive, but prefers to keep his distance while he decides someone is safe. Unexpected movements or sounds can also startle him. He does well with children and, once he gets to know you, Bear will shower you with love and companionship.

Bear is looking for a patient family who will give him the time and space he needs to feel comfortable. He may not be the dog who immediately runs up to greet everyone, but once Bear chooses you, you’ll discover a sweet, goofy, affectionate companion who is so happy to simply be by your side. For the right person, earning Bear’s trust will be an incredibly rewarding gift. ❤️

Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape.
