Mia is an adorable 6-year-old Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund who is looking for a new family to love. Sadly, her owner passed away, and this little girl has come to Misty Eyes in hopes of finding a new home where she can feel safe, cherished, and secure.Mia is a sweet, somewhat shy girl who spent most of her life as the only dog with an elderly owner. Because she hasn’t had much experience with other dogs, she can be a little growly when she feels uncomfortable—but she is not aggressive. She does well with cats who respect her personal space and would do best with older, gentle children who understand that a timid little dog may need some time to warm up.Mia is crate-trained, although she prefers her crate to be wherever her person is! She doesn`t signal when she needs to go outside, but she does well when taken out on a regular schedule. In her previous home, she relied on potty pads quite a bit, so her new family will need to be patient and consistent as she adjusts.Mia can also be protective of `her person.` If she`s being held, she may growl when another person or animal approaches her. She typically doesn`t take things beyond a warning growl, but adopters will need to understand and respect this behavior and help her feel secure without encouraging her to guard.Mia has been through a heartbreaking change, and what she needs most now is a loving, patient family who will give her the time and reassurance she needs to feel at home again.
