Zoomie has a beautiful soul. He’s looking for an adopter who will give him the time he needs to show off that beautiful part of himself.

He absolutely loves being outside, enjoys playing with his canine friends, and has an enthusiasm for life that is truly beautiful to see. He does well with both male and female dogs his own size, and canine friends who are confident and can set a good example for him are especially beneficial. A dog in the home could be a wonderful addition to his life.

Once Zoomie knows and trusts you, he is a loyal companion. He rides nicely in the car, walks beautifully on leash, and looks to his people for guidance when he is unsure. There is a really special dog underneath his cautious exterior, and we know just how wonderful he can be when he feels safe, understood, and comfortable with his person.

Zoomie is looking for a special home—one where his person understands that trust takes time and that relationships are built at the dog’s pace.

He needs an adopter with a strong understanding of dog behavior and canine body language. Zoomie is not a dog who should be rushed, pushed beyond his comfort zone, or expected to immediately adjust to a new environment. His adopter will need to recognize when he feels uncertain, respect his boundaries, and understand how to build trust thoughtfully and intentionally.

His ideal home would be adult-only and laid-back, with an adopter—or adopters—who are experienced with dogs and confident in reading and understanding canine behavior. He will not be adopted into a home with children, and a home with few visitors would be best.

With people, Zoomie needs things to happen at his pace. He is a shy, suspicious boy who needs time to figure out whether he is safe and whether he can trust you. He needs someone who will give him the opportunity to settle in, establish a dependable routine, and build a relationship one step at a time.

We have seen firsthand how beautifully Zoomie does when he feels safe. He is incredibly loyal and may prefer to keep his world small, but for the person who earns his trust, he will look to you for safety, guidance, and reassurance. Once that bond is there, he is an incredibly special boy who will look at you as though he only has eyes for you—and he will.

And his adopter won’t have to figure it all out alone. Zoomie’s foster is happy to help guide his future adopter, share what she has learned about him, and help make the transition as successful as possible. Having someone who already knows Zoomie and understands his communication can be an invaluable part of building his new relationship.

Zoomie doesn’t need someone with rigid expectations or someone who will push him too quickly. He doesn’t need to be like every other dog, because he is unapologetically himself.

He needs someone who understands dogs, respects his communication, and is willing to move at his speed.

For the right person, Zoomie will be worth every baby step.

Zoomie is fostered in Reading (Berks County), Pennsylvania and can join a family once one is ready to welcome him home.
