Joseph may end up being a medical case, but we are posting him ahead of time to put some feelers out there for any interested adopters. Joseph is getting a dental surgery to clean and extract teeth on August 25th at our vet. He also has a mass in his mouth that will be removed at that time. We will send it off for testing to confirm if it is cancer or not. We are hoping so much that it is not cancer and it is just a side effect of the dental disease in his mouth due to neglect from previous owners. But there is a chance he could be considered a hospice dog if it is cancer.

We rescued Joseph after seeing a Nextdoor post in Oregon where his owners were trying to rehome him. They said he was 6 years old. He's more like 13 years old. When we went to the home, they told us Joseph had not been outside in over a year since the apartment complex did not allow dogs. The home was very dirty and full of stuff. Poor Joseph's nails were so overgrown they were a couple inches long and twisting which impaired his ability to walk. We took Joseph with us. He was so happy to touch grass and smell fresh air!

- 6.8 pounds and approximately 13 years old

- Purebred Yorkshire Terrier with a docked tail and front dew claws removed

- Good with other dogs. We prefer him to go to a home with smaller dogs that won't be rough with him.

- Good with cats. We prefer cats that are kind to dogs because of Joseph's limited vision, he might accidentally bump into a cat and we would hope the cat wouldn't respond aggressively. He largely avoids cats and will walk away and mind his own business.

- Very sweet to both men and women

- Kids ages 12+ if there are children in the home

- Doing really well with his potty habits with only occasional accidents. Despite being kept inside and forced to use potty pads, Joseph does enjoy going outside to potty.

- Low energy little guy. We do think his vision is very limited. He does see shadows. He has mistaken a tree for his person before and gone up to the tree very excited to get some love. Excellent napper and is so thankful for a soft, plush dog bed.

- Enjoys short walks at a slow pace. He could be a great walking buddy for someone who goes shorter distances, walks slower or cannot have a dog that pulls heavily.

- No aggression, just a very sweet old man needing an angel for his final years.

Joseph is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, freshly groomed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee includes his dental surgery on August 25th in SW Portland at our vet. He could be pre-adopted prior to that surgery so long as the adopter is willing to get him to the appointment.
