Meet Jacqueline Sparrow!

This 8-year-old, 13.5-lb Shih Tzu is proof that size has nothing to do with spunk. Jackie (aka Jack Jack) came into her foster home recovering from recent vetting — including eye enucleation surgery (eye removal) due to a congenital "micro eye" — and let's just say the surgery got the memo, but Jackie did not. Her healing has gone great, and these days you'd never know she missed a beat.

Her foster family reports she came in like she owned the place. Stairs? She takes them two at a time. People? Oh, she LOVES people — all caps, no exceptions. Belly rubs, scritches, you name it — she is here for all of it.

Turns out Jackie is also extremely food and treat motivated — mealtime is basically the Super Bowl in her world. She's smart enough to know exactly where her "place" is, and she will sprint to it the second she senses food is coming. Hand her a good chewy and she is one happy, content girl. She's an all-around happy girl who wants to be in your presence at all times: curled up next to you on the sofa, riding shotgun on car rides, or underfoot in the kitchen supervising dinner prep. She's even been trying to play with her foster home's other dogs, who happen to be blind — they are still working out exactly what she's telling them, but the enthusiasm is there!

And if she's not in the middle of it? She'll let you know about it. Fair warning: this girl is not quiet. But give her a few minutes to make her case and she'll usually settle right down.

Jackie is still a work in progress on potty training and leash manners, and she can get overwhelmed out in the world — loud noises, fast-moving people, and cars can all spook her. Because of this, a fenced-in yard is a must for her next home, so she has safe space to build confidence while she learns. She's also a certified climber who can clear an x-pen with ease, and she has done well with crate training so far.
