Opal is one of those dogs who seems to have figured out the secret to a really good life: stay close to your people, get plenty of pets, take a few leisurely walks, and never underestimate the importance of a good squeaky toy.

From the moment she arrived, Opal has been an affectionate little lovebug. She happily nudges your hand when she wants scratches, hops onto the couch the moment you sit down, and sleeps at the foot of the bed at night. She doesn’t need constant entertainment—she’s perfectly content simply being wherever her people are. If you work from home, congratulations: you’ve just acquired an exceptionally respectful coworker who will quietly supervise from nearby.

Opal is a pretty mellow girl. She gets excited about the first part of a walk, then settles into a pleasant stroll. The rest of the day is mostly devoted to napping, with some evening toy time and the occasional game of fetch. She loves squeaky toys, has a serious tug-of-war addiction, and proudly carries around her favorite squeaker snowman. She also has a very important side quest: eliminating every flying insect she encounters. Her technique could use some refinement, but her enthusiasm is unmatched.

She’s friendly with people and has been wonderful out and about, including patio adventures where she initially decided the table was the best possible place to sit. She eventually figured out the intended seating arrangement. 😂

When it comes to other dogs, Opal does best with dogs around her own size. Slow, thoughtful introductions are important to help everyone feel comfortable. Smaller dogs can be too much like cats for Opal, so a home with small dogs would not be a good fit. Cats are also a no-go for this girl. She may occasionally get excited when she spots another dog while out on leash, so continued positive guidance will help her be her best self.

Opal is fully housetrained, knows a whole collection of commands including sit, down, wait, and shake, rides beautifully in the car, and walks nicely on leash. She’ll happily go into a crate, although she has demonstrated an impressive ability to escape when she decides she’d rather be elsewhere. Fortunately, she’s respectful when left loose in the house and doesn’t seem interested in causing trouble.

Opal would love a home where her people are around more often than not. She doesn’t need someone to entertain her all day—she just wants to know her humans are nearby. Give her a couple of walks, some toys, a cozy couch, and a person to adore, and Opal is one happy girl.

Sweet, goofy, affectionate, easygoing, and just a little bit obsessed with catching flies, Opal is the kind of companion who makes everyday life better simply by being there. ❤️🐾
