Rafa Romano has spent exactly zero minutes wondering whether anyone thinks he's "just a little dog." At an estimated 17 pounds, this six-year-old Chihuahua has carefully cultivated what he considers the ideal physique- sturdy, capable, and built for handling his own business, thank you very much! Carry him if you must, but he'd really prefer to march proudly beside you like the accomplished gentleman he knows he is. Confidence isn't just part of Rafa's personality, it is IS his personality and full-time hobby.

Estimated to be around 6 years old, Rafa weighs approximately 17 pounds, putting him in the heavyweight category of chihuahuas (by design because again- he isn’t some dainty purse dog.) Though all we are going off of is looks, simply he appears to be a Chihuahua mix, but with all rescue dogs, breed and age are simply our best guess. What we know for certain is that he's packed every ounce of that sturdy little frame with a perfectly matched personality.
Rafa is currently thriving in a loving foster home where he's living successfully with other dogs, cats, and farm animals, including chickens. He's both house trained and crate trained, making him an easy companion to welcome into everyday life. His foster describes him as the perfect balance of independent and affectionate. He's happy to entertain himself, but he's also quick to seek out the people he loves when it's time for attention. The best is the sound his proud and happy little feet make as he prances through the house looking for love. Tippy taps of cuteness that you cannot avoid smiling when you hear coming.
Like many thoughtful little dogs, Rafa appreciates about 30 minutes to settle in and get to know someone new. Once you've earned his trust, you'll discover a wonderfully loyal companion with a playful sense of humor and plenty of opinions. He's incredibly food motivated, absolutely adores treats, already knows "sit," listens well, and isn't shy about letting you know what he wants. If you happen to deliver a well-timed booty scratch, you'll get to see him melt a bit and then just like that you will be welcomed into Rafa’s exclusive Favorite-People-Club.

Our transport includes drop off locations, in WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT, TN, KY, WI, MN, IL, WI and Canada (pick up in Bellingham, WA, Buffalo, NY or Brattleboro, VT for for Canadian adopters). Before the adoption is finalized, you will meet your pet through a video call, creating a fun and personalized experience!
The adoption fee is $1200 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectable, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!
We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.
Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
