Meet april

Meet April!April is a gorgeous 2½-year-old long-haired German Shepherd, possibly with a touch of Rough Collie, who has overcome incredible odds and is finally ready to find the forever family she has waited so patiently for.Earlier this year, April survived an unknown amount of time outdoors during freezing temperatures before being rescued with a severe injury to her hind leg and hip. Thanks to PAWS New England, she received life-changing surgery and dedicated medical care in foster. Today, she has healed beautifully, and her happy, playful, affectionate personality shines through.April is deeply loyal and forms strong bonds with her people. She loves being close to her family and happily soaks up belly rubs, head scratches, hugs, kisses, and praise. Tell her she's the best girl in the world, and she'll believe every word.Like many German Shepherds and Collies, April has natural herding and guardian instincts. She is an excellent alert barker who will let you know when someone approaches the house or something catches her attention outside. Car rides are one of her favorite activities, and she enjoys keeping watch from the window, sometimes barking at people, motorcycles, or other interesting sights.April lives with four large dogs and gets along well with all of them. She enjoys communicating with her canine friends and would likely do best with another confident, easygoing large dog. She has met a small dog and did well but has not been tested with cats. She is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on leash, as you can see here: https://youtu.be/Ph8IXAXJYAkWhile she sleeps well in a crate, she usually prefers curling up on the couch beside her best canine buddy, Andy. She loves daily walks and, once she has fully regained strength in her repaired leg, would make a wonderful hiking or jogging companion. Like many herding breeds, squirrels are simply too tempting to ignore. One of April's most endearing qualities is her gentle, empathetic nature. She is wonderful with her foster family, enjoys outings to the veterinarian and pet store, and has become a favorite at the veterinary clinic that helped save her life.April will thrive with a family that appreciates the intelligence and loyalty of German Shepherds and will provide the exercise, structure, continued training, and love she deserves. She has not lived with children in foster care, so a home without young children, or with older, dog-savvy children, would likely be the best fit. After everything she has overcome, April is more than ready for the happy ending she deserves. All she needs now is a family to love as fiercely as she'll love them.Name: AprilBreed: German Shepherd Crossbreed (Breed mix is not guaranteed-no DNA testing done).Sex: FemaleAge: 2 years (estimated)Weight: 48Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Children: YesGood with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: UnknownAdoption Fee: $550.00 (includes transport fee when applicable) $100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee for Massachusetts residents.Location of dog currently: Tennessee IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.
