Meet chica

Meet sweet Chica. This girl is a rare breed called Xoloitzcuintli - otherwise known as a Mexican Hairless dog. Her owner got her from a breeder as a puppy and took very good care of her. Unfortunately, Chica`s owner tragically passed away and no one in the family was able to take her. She then made her way to us in hopes of finding a new forever home. Chica can be timid to start - and understandably so. She is hopeful her stay with us will be short. Chica would thrive in a quiet, patient home that allows her to open up and adjust at her own pace. At 7.5 years old, she is well past the puppy stage but she still enjoys going for leisurely walks. Chica is a sweet girl who is ready to be loved on again. These intelligent, loyal, and alert dogs come in three sizes (toy, miniature, standard) and are valued as calm companions and vigilant watchdogs, often forming strong bonds with their families. Key CharacteristicsAppearance: Most are hairless with smooth skin, but can have tufts of hair on the head, feet, and tail; a coated variety with short, flat fur also exists. They come in various colors like black, gray, brown, and red. Temperament: Calm, intelligent, and loyal, they are naturally wary of strangers and can be good guard dogs because they don`t bark excessively. They are sensitive and respond best to positive training. Sizes: Toy (up to 14 inches), Miniature (14-18 inches), and Standard (18-23 inches). History: One of the oldest domesticated breeds, revered by Aztecs as guardians for the afterlife. Care and NeedsSkin Care: The hairless variety needs protection from the sun and cold, often requiring sweaters or coats in cooler weather. Socialization: Early and consistent socialization is crucial to prevent them from becoming overly aggressive or fearful with strangers and other dogs. Training: They are quick learners but need patient, fun, and consistent training.
