Palmer, AK

Meet star

Star came to the shelter after his owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him when they could no longer provide the care he needed. To say their goodbye was difficult would be an understatement—Star was deeply loved and devoted to his family, and it’s clear that bond meant the world to him. If there’s one thing Star is known for, it’s being an affectionate companion. He’s the type of dog who wants to be by your side, soaking up every bit of love and attention he can get. Hugs? Yes, please. Quality time? Even better. His previous owner described him as a happy, easygoing boy, and we’ve found that to be true during his time with us as well. Star has experience living around other animals, though we weren’t provided many details about those interactions. Here at the shelter, he’s been friendly with many of the dogs he’s met. He seems to appreciate calmer, respectful canine companions, while more rambunctious dogs can make him feel a little overwhelmed. If you have another dog at home, we’re always happy to arrange a meet-and-greet to help ensure a good match. When it comes to people, Star has been a sweetheart. He’s done well meeting new faces and was especially adored by the child in his previous home. In fact, we’re told that child was his whole world. As with any new pet, thoughtful introductions are always recommended, but Star has shown us that he genuinely enjoys being around people. Star also has a playful side and will appreciate regular exercise and enrichment. One of his favorite activities has become participating in Miles & Mutts adventures, where he gets to explore, stretch his legs, and spend quality time with his human friends. And when adventure time is over? You’ll likely find him happily occupied with one of his favorite things in the world—a good chew bone. Not only is Star loving and fun, but he comes with some impressive manners, too. He is said to be potty trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and knows several cues including sit, stay, down, treat, and quiet. When Star first arrived at the shelter, he was dealing with a significant yeast infection that caused hair loss and left him feeling pretty uncomfortable. The good news is that with medication, regular baths, and lots of care, he’s making wonderful progress. His skin is healing, his coat is improving, and he’s feeling much more like himself every day. Star’s adopters will receive his medication and prescription diet to help continue his recovery, but it will be importa
