This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Ellie is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in her previous home and in the care center. In Ellie's previous home, Ellie had an incident where she lunged at a small dog and pinned it to the ground, requiring intervention to get away from the small dog. Ellie was able to disengage from the situation when redirected with a treat after several attempts. Ellie also in the care center has been starting to kennel fighting leaving the kennel room, making it difficult to walk her safely at times. Ellie is in the care center and social and affectionate with staff. Medically, Ellie is apparently healthy.Meet Ellie!Ellie was found as a stray, tied to a fence on Liberty Ave & Sackman St. She was friendly and easy to transport to the shelter, and from the start has shown herself to be a social, affectionate girl who is eager to connect with people.PersonalityEllie is a wiggly, loving, high-energy girl who truly enjoys people. She seeks attention, especially butt scratches, and is very food motivated, which makes her a great candidate for continued training. She can get very excited and may be jumpy when she's happy to see you, but it all comes from a place of enthusiasm and affection.A previous foster describes her as 60 lbs of pure love, the perfect companion for both long walks and lazy sofa time. At home, she loves to snuggle close and will happily try to fit right into your lap if you let her. She also handles alone time well, staying calm and quiet until her people return.Training & NeedsEllie is still working on some basic manners and impulse control. She will benefit from structure, consistency, and continued positive reinforcement training. Because she is energetic and easily excited, she does best with an adopter who can guide her with patience and help her channel her enthusiasm in positive ways.Ideal HomeEllie would thrive in an active, experienced home that can provide both physical exercise and mental enrichment like walks, chews, and food puzzles. A calmer home environment without young children will help her feel more settled and allow her to continue building confidence and manners at her own pace.
