Saurez (ACCT-A-246222) came to the shelter on 3/28/26 after being abandoned in front of a business. Despite the circumstances, he arrived social and tolerant of handling, showing early on that he is a resilient and people-friendly dog.

Since intake, Saurez has shown himself to be a lively, affectionate, and food-motivated companion. While he can be a bit nervous in new environments, he warms up quickly with encouragement and displays loose, wiggly body language and soft eyes when interacting with people. He enjoys treats, seeks out attention, and happily solicits pets, sometimes getting a little jumpy in his excitement. On leash, he may pull mildly at first but settles into a more relaxed walk once outside. Saurez is an energetic dog who thrives on activity—he has shown playful behaviors like play bows and enjoys engaging with other dogs, especially those who match his playful, push-and-pull style. With his enthusiasm and social nature, he would do best in an active home that can provide him with plenty of exercise and enrichment.

⭐Behavioral Notes⭐

04/01/2026 per staff behavioral eval:
Kennel Presentation: The guillotine door was closed and he was on the back side of his kennel pawing at the guillotine door when I approached. I made a kissy noise and he came over with loose wiggly body, soft eyes and ears to the side. Then jumped up on the kennel door.

Leash Skills: A little difficult to leash as he was right at he door and ready to come out of the kennel. Pulls mildly through the kennels and then walked on a looser leash when we got outside.

Sociability: Loose and wiggly, mildly jumpy after petting. Solicits for more pets. His eyes were soft, ears to the side and mid tail wagging loosely.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: Met Bella Ella. Pulled towards her, then playbowed to her. Bella Ella was avoidant of him and he began to bark.

Return to Kennel: Went right into the kennel and was able to remove the leash with my hand. He then tried to push back out of the kennel.

This guy is full of energy and would benefit from a home that is as active as he is. He did well in playgroup and may do well going to doggy day care.

03/28/2026 per staff:
Came out of kennel fine, walked through kennel nervously, btu with encouragement walked loose on leash, when in the room loose body language, allowed all handling. Ate hotdogs, cheese, and cream cheese. No restraint needed for vax or chip, just cream cheese on the door. Walked back into kennel with no issues

Playgroup 3/28: Mildly steerable with water (1/5) and shake can (2/5). Gate greetings: mid level wags, loose. Quick entry, rushed into greetings Solid. Play bows, dashed around. Found playmates in Geronimo and Stellabell, who enjoyed push/pull style running around.
