Meet kallias
Kallias ACCT-A-246026 is an approximately 7-month-old puppy who came in as an owner surrender on 3/26 alongside his siblings, Riorson and Kiva. While their owner cared deeply for them, they ultimately had more animals than they could manage.
Kallias is a big, lovable pup with a gentle heart and a playful spirit. He absolutely loves romping and rolling around with his brother Riorson, showing off his fun, goofy side. Though he may take a moment to warm up, once he does, he’s all about seeking out pets, affection, and quality time with his people.
Kallias would thrive in a home with another dog where he can burn off his zoomies and continue building his confidence through play and companionship.
Behavior:
On 3/27 staff noted: "Both dogs were on the same side of the kennel, so I walked around the back and Kallias came over. I closed the divider and was able to easily leash him and he came right out of kennel, but then he froze and was trembling. I carried him up to the vestibule, then put him on the floor. He walked slowly and kept stopping, but would approach me when I crouched down, so I would take a few steps back and repeat. Once outside, he walked a little better but still slow and cautious. He showed no interest in treats. We went into the yard and he was curious about the other dog. I dropped the leash and he stayed near the perimeter of the yard, being a little avoidant of me. He was tolerant of pets, but was panting and lip licking occasionally. Once his brother and the other puppy showed up, he opened up, ran around, and played. He also approached me more readily. He walked better when coming back inside as we were walking with his brother. Neither wanted to go back into the kennel, so I brought him around the back of the kennel so we could get both in and remove the leashes easily. I had to pick him up to help him back into kennel.”

This sweet baby came into the shelter as part of a bonded pair with his best friend, Riorson, after their owner had too many pets. Now they’re both trying to make sense of a big, loud, and unfamiliar world 💔
Kallias is estimated to be just 7–8 months old, still very much a puppy, and understandably so scared. It took a lot of gentle encouragement (and some cheese 🧀) for him to even consider coming out of his kennel. Once he did, he was so overwhelmed that he pancaked right onto the floor, too scared to move.
But here’s the thing about Kallias… he doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. Not a single one. He let me pick him up, hold him, and carry him outside without any resistance, just quiet fear and trust.
Even outside, he was still unsure, so we sat together on a bench until his buddy Riorson joined us. And that’s when you could see it… the smallest spark of comfort 💫
With a little time, patience, and love, both boys started to soften. Gentle tail wags, cautiously taking treats, and accepting soft pets. It was like watching them remember what it feels like to feel safe.
They could definitely use a good bath, and it breaks my heart to imagine the conditions they may have come from. But underneath it all are two incredibly sweet souls who just want to be loved.
Kallias (and Riorson) don’t need perfection, they need patience, understanding, and someone willing to show them that the scary part is over.
They are so worth it 🤍
If you can open your heart and home to these boys, especially together, you’ll be giving them the second chance they truly deserve."
On 3/26 APO noted: “Three 7 month old puppies surrendered and removed from property. Has never been on a leash, panicked when slip lead was put on. Will not walk, allowed being carried.”
