Nala Nae ACCT-A-244497 is a 1-year-old female who came in as an owner surrender due to eviction/foreclosure. Owner noted that “Fazo is very territorial over Nala. Can be aggressive when eating, doesn't like leashes or cars. He has bitten a person: Me when I first got them. {Did not break skin, surrenderer stated she was feeding all 3 dogs together and they all got possessive and when he went to grab the food Nala and Fazo nipped him}. They are calm towards cats, and their demeanor depends with strangers. Their reactions towards dogs depend on the actions of the dog. I can tell they have been through a lot and require a lot of attention and love to help them become the sweet dogs I know that they can be.”



MEDICAL:



Per intake exam on 3/5:
”Weight: 47.5 lbs

BCS: 3 - Thin



Assessment:

- Clean, blowing coat

- BAR (bright, alert, responsive), very bonded with brother, did great with handling all over, knows paw”



BEHAVIORAL:



Per staff on 3/8:

“Resource test: was able to pet her side up to her neck while she was eating. Placed my foot by the bowl of food then had my hand in front of the bowl. She had no reaction and kept eating.

Per staff on 3/8:

“Kennel Presentation: At the front of the crate with wide/soft eyes, ears to the side and tail down not moving. Took a treat gently through the crate door.

Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of the crate. Walking through the kennels her head was low, tail down and kept stopping. Needed verbal and food encouragement. She would stay as close to a wall as possible. Once outside she did a shake off, tail came up and began to wag loosely and body softened.

Sociability: Came over and immediately solicited for pets. Her face was soft, loose body and mid tail wagging. When I would stop petting she would lean in and solicit more. Can be a little jumpy and nails are sharp. Took treats gently and knows sit.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: Met snowcone through the fence. sniffed and then walked away.

Return to Kennel: Attempted to go back into the building through the adoption lobby. She stopped walking and I attempted a treat lure. Decided to go back outside and try the other door to kennels. She went in without hesitation. Walking back through the kennels her body was upright and mid tail not wagging. Hesitated slightly going back in her kennel, tossed a few treats and she walked in after a few seconds of standing there.
