Layla ACCT-A-242454 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Layla must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28th by 10:00 am. Should Layla ’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.
Meet lovely Layla! She was surrendered by her owners after having conflicts with the other pets in her home. Now she's ready for another chance, ideally as your one and only!
Layla is estimated to be around 3–4 years old and weighs about 61 pounds. She is super silly, playful, and full of personality; especially when she has a squeaky stuffy. She absolutely loves toys and will happily show off her zoomies while proudly carrying one around. Volunteers describe her as goofy and fun, the kind of dog who makes you laugh every time you watch her play.
In her kennel, Layla greets people with soft eyes and a loose, wiggly body. She takes treats gently and is extremely social once outside. She knows “sit” and “paw” on a dime and is both food and toy motivated, which will make future training fun and rewarding. She walks nicely overall. She may pull with excitement at first, but settles quickly and keeps pace well. Staff note that she appears housetrained and will go to the bathroom promptly when taken outside.
Layla has been noted to be dog selective/reactive towards other dogs in the kennels where she was observed lunging and barking at other dogs on her walk sheet. She would likely do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention or with managed and slow introductions towards other dogs. Her previous owner shared that she lived successfully with children and was playful with them, though there were concerns about possible resource guarding with other pets in the home. During recent handling in the yard, staff were able to approach her while she had toys without any guarding behaviors observed.
Layla is looking for a committed adopter or rescue who understands her energy and would love an active, playful companion. She’s ready to leave the shelter behind and start her next chapter as someone’s beloved, silly best friend!
BEHAVIOR NOTES:
2/26 per staff: Layla likes toys took her for a walk and she took a toy with her. During our walk she dropped her toy and i didn't see it until it was to far. On the way back she picked her toy back up and brought it back with her. Very polite didn't jump all over me or pull too much but leash still tight. Enjoyed her time out.
2/15 per staff:
Kennel Presentation: Met me at the front of her kennel with soft eyes and a loose, wiggly body. Gave some lip licks and took a treat gently through the door.
Leash Skills: Moderate to strong pulling through kennels. She went to the bathroom immediately upon getting outside, then pulling subsided. On the way back in, she kept a quick pace with no pulling and kept pace with me if I slowed down.
Sociability: Extremely social, playful, and wiggly in the yard. She loved stuffies and got zoomies carrying them around. Chewed/destroyed them heavily. Would trade for a treat briefly, then go back to the toy. Knows sit and paw.
Play: Absolutely loved a stuffy. No signs of resource guarding when I approached, pet, and reached toward the toy while she had it. She also brought it to me for brief tug before running away with it.
Dog Interaction: N/A
Return to Kennel: Hopped right in and let me remove her leash, even when I had to reach over her head because it got stuck on her bone.
Color Level: Gold
