Quintana and her sister Zelda were brought to our rescue partner in Texas when their Rottweiler mom's owner was surprised by a litter of puppies. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that holds true with these girls!

Zelda has been adopted, and Quintana is waiting for the same good luck her sister had! Quintana is the more outgoing of the two sisters; super sweet, healthy, beautiful, and great with the other canine friends she's making at Heartland! Quintana is exuberant and fun, but it should be noted that she is much more reserved and hesitant with new males (she likes many male volunteers and staff who she has gotten to know). There is nothing mean-spirited about her hesitancy, but whereas she will run right up to any female, she will likely retreat and shy away from a new male.

Quintana got to spend a few days over the holidays with one of our wonderful fosters, who had this to say about her - "She is a very loving, kind and gentle dog. She cuddled right up to me at night and as we slept downstairs —slept between me and the back of the sofa for the two nights. She does love massages, belly rubs and touch. She is a gentle soul. One day she took an hour walk in to the forest, but the next day she was more shy about walking and stuck to the neighborhood. She does love looking out my window into the forest, loves looking at squirrels who walk by. She hasn’t barked at all yet."

Quintana has also recently gotten to go home for the day with one of our volunteers, who has this to say about our sweet girl:

"Quintana was amazing, and my mom was also telling her friends how sweet and perfect of a pup she is. She was very gentle with my 14 year old, 14 lb dog (Trudee), and she was very friendly and playful with my 9 year old, 80 lb dog Wagner (who acts like a puppy that wants to play a lot). She is really great at communicating with other dogs so that if Wagner got too hyper, she would kind of correct him, but she was never aggressive or mean. They had fun running around the backyard, playing tug and keep away with toys.

She also enjoyed relaxing, and found a chair she loved to lay in, as well as the couch. She found a hard plastic foot massage thing she wanted to chew on, so I replaced it with a plastic bone and she liked chewing on that. Her puppyish nature shined through a few times when she would want to chew on things like a corner of a book or picking up a shoe, but she was very easy to redirect to toys and the bone that she could chew on!

She gained a lot more confidence the second time I brought her home, like getting in and out of the car on her own, and after showing her the basement, she became confident going up and down the stairs whereas the first day she was too afraid to try them!

She really is such a sweet and gentle pup, almost wise beyond her years, and she loved licking my face, playing, and sleeping near me. At one point she was watching TV and actually engaged with the show! S

She might be potty trained; there were no accidents and she peed and pooped outside multiple times, never seemed to want to inside. She made Wagner to so happy to have a friend to run around with and match his energy, and Trudee seemed comfortable having her around too. And of course I was very happy to have her around!

Even though Quintana came from an unplanned litter, she is getting the start she deserves now—vet care, socialization, and the chance to grow into a confident, well-mannered family dog. She’s looking for adopters committed to positive reinforcement, consistency, and lots of affection as she gains confidence and grows into her big-dog body.

Quintana’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored! This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
