Meet tika

Tika is a sweet, affectionate girl who forms strong bonds with her people and clearly loves being close to those she trusts. She enjoys having the freedom to lounge around the house, spend time near her favorite humans, and soak up attention whenever it’s offered. Tika has been used to free-roaming in the home, having access to a doggie door, and being part of everyday family life—including relaxing on the furniture like one of the family. Tika can be a little cautious when meeting new people and may bark or act unsure for the first few minutes, especially when visitors enter the home, but once she has time to settle and understand that she’s safe, she warms up nicely. She seems to prefer a gentle approach and would likely do best with adopters who allow her time to build trust at her own pace. She especially seems to enjoy female companionship, though she has done well with men and children as well. She just might need a little more time to get to know them! She is playful, friendly, and very devoted to her people—so devoted, in fact, that she can become anxious when left alone and may busy herself by knocking reachable items around or chewing on her toys. Because of this, Tika may benefit from a home that can continue helping her build confidence when alone and provide her with structure and enrichment. Crate training could be beneficial for both her and her new family. She did not live with other dogs in her adoptive home but regularly visited by a small dog. Tika and the small dog had an altercation when a care giver decided to feed them together. Tika did not appreciate this and prefers to eat separately from other dogs. Though this is understandable, introductions should be done with care and adopters should be mindful of this. This was the one and only issue we have been informed of. Overall, Tika has done well with other dogs and has a friendly demeanor in shelter! Tika is looking for a patient, understanding home that sees her potential and is ready to help her continue learning. With a little guidance, consistency, and love, this loyal girl has all the makings of a truly wonderful companion.
