Casanova is a small dog with a big heart and a ton of smarts. He thrives and builds trust when his needs are met and he is given the space and time necessary to learn. For him, trust does not come easy. Given his size and dapper good looks, he seems to attract people wanting to touch and pick him up. He will do better when he given the opportunity to ask for such things like being petted. Fast movements and crowding him make him uncomfortable and untrusting. He is not afraid to vocalize his distrust of such activities before he is ready. He is looking for a family experienced with similar type dogs and behaviors. He needs a family that will be committed to helping him be all he can be. A structured, stable environment with routine walks, mental and physical enrichment practices. He will surely be a constant work in progress. He does have a bite history from the originating home and from his adopted home. A behavioral discussion will take place with any potential adopter and our Behavior Manager. Cas has lived with both cats and dogs, and he tends to be very choosy of what he likes and does not like. His past, as best we can tell, was a bit erratic and so a calm but active home without children would be best. Casanova is a sensitive and intelligent boy who can become easily stressed or frustrated without proper management. He’s looking for a family who truly understands how to support a small dog — one that values routine, patience, and positive reinforcement. Cas is quite the trick expert and thrives when asked to perform! With the right environment and people who see and respect who he is, Casanova will blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion who gives his whole heart to those he trusts.
