Meet vermont

Meet Vermont - Take My Lead
After 533 days at a shelter, Vermont is flourishing in foster care!

At under two years old, Vermont lacked critical socialization while he was kept at a shelter as evidence in his former owner’s cruelty case since March 2023.

While @RISPCA shelter staff and Handsome Dan’s Rescue volunteers have worked closely with him, not being able to leave the shelter’s premises has limited his interactions and real-life exposure to a single area, and only a handful of people.

Once his court case was over, with both RISPCA staff and us at HDR were overjoyed. RISPCA said goodbye to one of their favorite residents and entrusted him to us for foster care.

He is now in the loving care of volunteers Jen and Brian.

He meets each new experience with hesitation but also becomes more confident and comfortable, it’s met with curiosity. If it’s new, it’s scary. Vermont’s foster family is working to help him acclimated to real life by exposing him to more people, places, and things.

After being in foster care for a few months his world is slowly starting to open up. He enjoys outings, and the resident dogs have become his besties and provide emotional support.

Vermont would benefit from being adopted into a household with another dog that he could depend on for a little extra bravery when needed.

Vermont is a work in progress, but has proven to be up for the challenge. He needs a patient adopter who is willing to continue to help him to overcome his fears, and who understand that he may always need time and space to process new environments.

Vermont comes with a Take My Lead grant, providing FREE training through Handsome Dan’s Rescue. We want to set him up for success in his new home.

To say this boy is special is an understatement. We are beyond excited to see where his life takes him. Whoever ends up won’t this boy will be truly a lucky soul.
