Hi! I am Gus, an independent-minded, 2½ - 3 year old, 15lb. neutered male Shih Tzu mix (I think). I am a handsome (and very cute) gentleman that looks my best with occasional grooming. I will thrive in a home to keep me safe from escapes, with lots of physical activity, combined with lots of loving. I am potty-trained with good household manners – if you don’t mind that I snooze a bit on your couch or comfy chair with a soft blanket. Love of novelty and adventure and an energetic style is my thing, thus I prefer to be with a caretaker that can offer me activities and diverse experiences. I balance my sense of adventure, that is, frequent outdoor walks and lots of active play combined with belly rubs, short times in your lap and relaxation. My favorite games are catch-me-if-you can and hide-and-seek. I will chase a ball a few times, enjoying mouthing it once I capture it. I also might mouth your hand, but gently. Chasing squirrels, bugs or bicycles is something I would really enjoy, but not always allowed. When excited I bark if we play a really fun game, or I see another dog. Other dogs excite me but I do not growl. Otherwise I am a rather quiet kind of guy. No guard dog here. Cats are a curiosity to me – I explore them with my nose but show minimal interest. Watching out the window or patio doors for moving life outside is a good pastime. I like to ride in the car and look out the window if I have vantage point to be able to do so given my small size. My house manners are rather good. Though I don’t ask to go outside to do my business, I will do it when you bring me outside or on a walk. I enjoy my large crate to relax or sleep – again with a blanket and I prefer this to a doggie bed. I sleep all night without disturbing you. It is mesmerizing to watch someone cook in the kitchen. Watching from a distance I clean up the floor when the cook is finished. Speaking of floors, I prefer carpet. I like to roll around to leave my scent and get a good itch. Keep in mind that I am an independent pup. Commands are a suggestion, not a mandate. I may or may not come when you call, sit, or get down from the furniture is you ask. A treat offers some incentive. As a dog I love to explore and I am not happy being indoors all of the time nor taking the same walking route every time. Because of my craving for adventure, I have become an expert escape artist. This may be why I am now a dog looking for a new home. An open door for even a brief second for someone to exit is my ticket to sneakily slide by before noticed. Any crack in a fence or gate is my ticket to the outside world and I am gone exploring. Again, I would thrive in a home to keep me safe from escape, with lots of activity, combined with lots of loving. I am the sweetest dog ever! So I need a secure Fenced Yard so NO Apartments.
