Hi there! I’m Rio, and I’m looking for a safe place to land and a person who will show me just how wonderful life can be. ❤️🐾

My story is a little heartbreaking. My owner passed away, leaving me behind with my six puppies. Thankfully, some kind neighbors stepped up to care for us until Hay Dude Rescue could take us in. I’ve spent my time being a mama, looking out for my babies, and doing my best to survive. Now it’s finally MY turn to be taken care of.

I’m about 2 years old and weigh around 55 pounds, which makes me a perfectly sized companion for someone looking for a medium-sized best friend. I’m a beautiful girl with a heart of gold, but I’ll be honest with you: I’m a little shy when meeting new people.

I’ve spent time as a street dog, and when you’re trying to survive and protect six little puppies, you learn to be cautious about the world around you. I’m not an aggressive girl; I just need a little time to figure out that you’re one of the good ones. I do best when people let me approach at my own pace instead of expecting me to be best friends five seconds after meeting. Give me patience, kindness, and a little understanding, and you’ll start to see the real Rio emerge. ❤️

And let me tell you, once I get comfortable? I’m actually pretty funny! I have a silly side that comes out when I feel safe, and it’s such a joy to watch my personality blossom. I’ve been busy being a responsible mama for so long that I’m ready to discover what it’s like to just be a dog and enjoy life. No more worrying about raising six kids or keeping everyone in line. I’ve officially earned my retirement from motherhood!

My dream home would be a calm, quieter household with people who understand that trust takes time. I could do well with respectful children who understand how to be gentle and give me space, but a home full of constant chaos, loud noises, and tiny humans acting like unsupervised hooligans probably isn’t my cup of tea. 😂 I just want a peaceful place where I can relax and learn that the world isn't such a scary place after all.

Oh, and a bonus for my future family: I ride really well in the car! So once we’ve built that trust, I’ll be ready to accompany you on adventures, errands, or a good old-fashioned drive with the windows down.

I know I may not be the dog who runs up to every stranger demanding attention, but please don't overlook me because I need a little extra time. There is a very sweet, funny, loving girl underneath that shy exterior, and I have so much love to give the person who earns my trust.

I’ve been through a lot, and I’ve done a wonderful job taking care of my puppies. Now I’m hoping someone will take care of me. Could that someone be you?
