Meet Odette. Professional heart-stealer, part-time brave girl and full-time sweetheart.

Before arriving at the shelter, Odette spent more than a month surviving alone on the streets of Long Beach, CA. She learned to be cautious, keep her distance and rely on herself. So when she was finally safe, we wanted to give this beautiful girl the chance to learn that she didn’t have to be quite so brave all by herself anymore.

Odette is now spending some time fostering with a trainer, building her confidence, experiencing new things at her own pace and discovering that life on the other side of survival is pretty great.

And just one week in, we’re already getting glimpses of the real Odette.

She can be shy when meeting new people, but once you’re officially part of her inner circle, prepare to be loved. Odette is incredibly sweet, affectionate and social with the people she trusts. She loves being close to her humans and is quickly figuring out that having people around to love you is a pretty good deal.

She’s also been great with other dogs and really seems to enjoy their company. Having a canine buddy around helps bring out her confidence, curiosity and playful side.

Odette has done well riding in the car, walks nicely on leash and is comfortable relaxing in a crate. She’s a happy, gentle soul who is getting a little braver every day.

We already think she’s pretty amazing. We can’t wait to see how much more of this sweet girl emerges over the next few weeks.

The streets taught Odette how to survive. Now she gets to learn how good it feels to simply be loved.
