š¤ Meet Bernadette š¤
Bernadette is a 2-year-old Lab mix who deserves to finally feel safe. She came into rescue from a case involving sexual abuse of animals, and while her past is heartbreaking, there is so much more to this girl than what she has survived.
She loves people, loves kids, and loves other dogs. Sheās playful, completely vetted, and potty trained! She has so much love to give, but she also needs a family who understands that her anxiety will take patience and consistent work.
We want to be honest about what that looks like. Bernadette can become very distressed when she perceives a threat around her people or her homeāeven something as small as a bunny outside. When she becomes upset, she can bark continuously and take around 30 minutes to settle. These reactions need to be taken seriously, and her future family needs to be prepared to help her manage them.
Bernadette will need a patient, committed person who can provide a predictable routine and work with a qualified behavior professional to help her feel more secure. She also needs a compatible, playful dog companion. She loves having a friend, although another dog alone wonāt resolve her anxiety. While she has done well with children, any potential home will need careful consideration of her triggers and everyoneās needs.
This girl has plenty of love. What she needs now is someone willing to put in the time, celebrate the small steps, and help her learn that she can relax and feel safe. š¤
