Magoo is a curious, playful pup who is learning that the world is a pretty wonderful place—and he’s getting a little braver every day!

This handsome guy can be shy and nervous, especially when he’s somewhere unfamiliar.
We can't blame him-- from the time he was just a few weeks old until this past summer, he grew up on the grounds of a rural rescue and sanctuary in Arkansas. Magoo was a beloved presence at the rescue down there, certainly by the many dogs he lived amongst, and the small group of staff and volunteers. But they wanted a better life for Magoo, so he made the long trip up north.

Adjusting to his foster home just outside of Chicago took him a minute! Thankfully, his wonderful foster mom and her dog were there to show him the ropes. Magoo spent a couple of months in his foster home until work travel and other commitments picked up. Now he is ready for a bigger audience, and we felt it was time for him to try his luck onsite at our shelter!

Magoo is often happiest hanging back and observing the action from a safe spot before deciding he’s ready to join in. Anyone who meets him will need to give him a little time to warm up. But you’ll soon discover a cuddly sweetheart who loves curling up on the sofa for movie time. And when his puppy energy kicks in? Look out! Magoo’s zoomies have been known to involve rearranging his entire toy collection. 😂

Magoo takes a lot of confidence from the resident dog in his foster home and had been doing wonderfully with his canine companion. He will need another dog in his forever home—a friendly, confident dog who can help show him the ropes and remind him that new things aren't so scary.

Outside and on leash, Magoo can still be quite nervous, so his forever family should be prepared to patiently help him build confidence. He does best with a consistent routine and would benefit from access to a quiet, low-traffic area for potty breaks, as he can be hesitant to potty while out on walks. He's been doing well with housebreaking in his foster home when given that structure.

Magoo has done very well crated or left to free-roam for a full workday. He had accidents in his foster home at first, but not after quickly getting the routine down.

Magoo isn't looking for someone to rush him into being brave. He's looking for someone who will let him take the time he needs, celebrate every little victory, and give him the security of a canine friend by his side. In return, you're going to get to watch a pretty special transformation—from the shy pup sitting quietly in the corner to the silly, cuddly, zoomie-loving dog we know him as.

Magoo's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
