He came to us straight from death row after being dumped at the shelter with latestage heartworm disease. We were his only shot. We rushed him to UGA, where their cardiology team diagnosed him with Caval Syndrome — a lifethreatening complication where a mass of adult heartworms backs out of the lungs and blocks blood flow inside the right side of the heart. Dogs rarely survive it.But Braveheart isn’t “rare.” He’s one in a million.
UGA’s cardiologist built an aggressive plan to save him, and Braveheart fought like the absolute champion he is. And today? He has been fully cleared for normal activity and is doing AMAZING. At his followup last week, the cardiologist literally said they cannot believe how this dog beat the odds and recovered the way he did.
