Meet sweetquake

Meet Sweetquake, affectionately known as “Sweetcake” to the volunteers who adore her. And honestly, the name fits! This irresistible 4-year-old girl is a 54-pound sweetheart whose soft, affectionate personality blossomed in her short term foster home. She arrived feeling timid and unsure, but with time, patience, and a little space to settle in, Sweetquake showed just how much she loves being around her people.Sweetquake is back at the shelter after spending some time in a foster home, where we learned more about her affectionate personality and saw encouraging progress in her confidence. Sweetquake is a serious cuddle-bug who absolutely loves being close to her humans. She enjoyed following her foster family around and being part of whatever was happening, although she was also beginning to feel comfortable breaking away occasionally to do her own thing. She is still learning that it`s okay to relax independently, so she`ll do best with people who can give her time and continue building her confidence.Sweetquake showed lovely house manners during her foster stay! She had no potty accidents and was respectful of the home and belongings. She also made encouraging progress with crate time, becoming more comfortable with less crying and no attempts to get out in her latest foster update. With patience and reassurance, she is learning that time apart can be okay. A home where someone is around much of the time would help her continue building on that progress and growing her confidence.Sweetquake enjoys daily walks and loves using her nose to investigate all the interesting scents along the way. Her leash manners improved during her foster stay, and her latest update described her as walking ahead without pulling. She watched other dogs with curiosity without pulling or whining. She enjoyed long walks almost every day in a secluded area and was described as having a medium energy level. At home, she enjoyed playing with her stuffed squirrel, chewing on bully sticks, and chasing a ball. She also knows sit, paw, and lay down, and her foster family had begun teaching her roll over!Sweetquake has a fun, playful personality and plenty of enthusiasm for making new friends! At an outdoor adoption event, she enjoyed meeting people, including a 12-year-old child, and seemed especially drawn to men. She is still learning how to channel her excitement into polite greetings, as she sometimes jumps, mouths, or grabs her leash when excited. She would do best in a home without small children. Sweetquake made lovely strides during her foster stay, and her love of snuggling remained a standout part of her personality. This affectionate girl is ready to keep building her confidence with a patient family who will help her feel safe and loved.Sweetquake has done well meeting other dogs and prefers gentle, polite canine friends. She will need to meet any potential dog siblings to make sure they are a good match. She has also noticed a cat through a door and was interested, but she has not had enough direct cat interaction to know how she would do living with one. Slow, appropriate introductions would be important if she were to live with cats.Sweetquake is back at the shelter after a short-term foster stay, where she made lovely strides in building her confidence. With time to decompress and gentle encouragement, she began learning that she could feel safe, relax, and enjoy being a dog. She is still a work in progress, but her time in a home showed what an incredibly affectionate companion she can be. Sweetquake is ready to keep blossoming with a patient family who will give her the time and reassurance she needs. If you`re looking for a sweet, snuggly dog who wants to be your constant companion and you`re ready to give her the patience and guidance she needs to keep growing, Sweetquake may be your girl. Come down to BARCS and meet Sweetquake!
