Meet linda-update

Linda is a completely different dog than she was a year ago.

When she came to us she was a whopping 33lbs, could barely walk or breathe without her tongue turning blue, and was cranky and untouchable. She lost more than half her body weight and now runs and dances and always has a smile on her face. And she’s turned into a pretty nice little dog- once she bonds and knows you. We can’t completely cure her of years of distrust and discomfort, she will always have her quirks and need time and treats to warm up to new people and need to be left alone at first. But once you are her person, she is always staring up at you with a smile, ready for cuddles and belly rubs. She thrives around other dogs and enjoys pack life so an adult home with just one or 2 people she can bond to is best but the more dogs the better. Don’t expect to meet her and form an instant bond- the best and most rewarding relationships take time to build. But once you make that connection, you have a true ride or die (or kill for you if needed- no burglars or delivery men will get by her).
Linda does have hypothyroidism but 2 inexpensive pills a day manages it and she loves her cheese treat 🧀 with a pill inside. Her annual exam revealed a tiny mammary mass that we had removed and was cancerous, but no sign of spread at this time and was caught early so hopefully her second chapter in life still has quite a few years to be written. She’s 10 years old, 15lbs now and some kind of chihuahua mixed maybe with doxie or rat terrier.

Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Linda in Northern NJ

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
