🐾 MEET PRECIOUS 🐾
Her name is Precious, and she is every bit of the meaning behind it.
About three months ago, this sweet girl began wandering just outside our property, scared, hungry, and unsure if she could trust anyone. For nearly two weeks, I patiently worked to earn her confidence, offering treats through the fence and leaving food and fresh water out for her each morning and night. Though she kept her distance, her beautiful personality began to shine through from the very beginning.
Every evening, Precious would sit outside our property and let out a bark or two, almost as if she was letting me know she was there and ready for dinner. It became our special routine. Day by day, she grew a little braver, and little by little, she began to trust.
The day she finally came to me is one I'll never forget. My heart melted instantly. Beneath her cautious exterior was a gentle, loving soul who simply needed patience, kindness, and a chance.
Through Valley Dog Rescue, I have had the privilege of becoming Precious's foster mom. From the moment she chose to trust me, I committed to keeping her safe, loved, and cared for until we can find the forever home she deserves.
Today, Precious has blossomed into an affectionate, happy young dog who is estimated by our veterinarian to be between 1½ and 2 years old. She is spayed, housetrained, and sleeps quietly in her kennel through the night.
Like many rescue dogs, Precious's past is somewhat of a mystery. It appears she had a litter of puppies before finding her way to our property, though we don't know what became of them. Whatever she experienced before she arrived taught her to be careful about who she trusts. Precious doesn't give her trust away freely, but who could blame her? Her trust needs to be earned with patience, kindness, and consistency.
The beautiful thing is that once she realizes you're not going to hurt her, she warms up like a pair of winter mittens fresh from the dryer. The walls come down, the kisses start flowing, and her sweet, affectionate personality shines through.
And oh, does this girl love life! ❤️
Her favorite things include giving kisses, soaking up belly rubs, chasing after her ball, playing with my dogs, going for car rides, and splashing around in the water. More than anything, Precious loves being included. Whether you're heading out on an adventure, spending time in the yard, or simply relaxing at home, she wants to be right there with her people.
After a fun day of running and playing outside, you'll often find her stretched out on the cool tile floor, completely content and enjoying a well-earned rest.
Our veterinarian believes Precious has damage to her hips from an old, untreated injury that occurred sometime before she found her way to us. Amazingly, it doesn't slow her down. She runs, plays, swims, chases her ball, and enjoys life to the fullest. Occasionally, she may twist or move the wrong way and let out a little yelp, but she quickly bounces back. She also takes allergy medication to help keep her comfortable and healthy.
Her journey hasn't always been easy, but she has shown incredible resilience, trust, and an endless capacity for love. The frightened dog who once sat outside the fence waiting for a meal has transformed into a loyal companion who is ready to become someone's best friend.
When Precious finally chose to trust me, she stole a piece of my heart. My greatest wish is to find the family who will cherish her for the rest of her life and give her the love she has always deserved.
