Every household needs a little sophistication. A little elegance. A little class. And apparently, a 30-pound Great Pyrenees puppy who will play until she’s tired and then plop herself down next to her people like she has personally completed a grueling 40-hour workweek. Meet Countess, a 3-month-old Great Pyrenees who may technically be royalty, but don’t worry—she’s surprisingly approachable. No bowing required. Treats, however, are always appreciated. Countess’s story didn’t exactly begin with the royal treatment. She was found abandoned alongside her mama and three siblings, and the whole little family eventually made their way to us. Since then, Mom and all three siblings have found their forever homes. Which means Countess has officially become the last little noblewoman standing. And frankly, she would like to speak with management about that. Especially considering this girl has already been through enough for one tiny lifetime. Shortly after coming into rescue, Countess came down with parvo. It was scary, it was miserable, and it certainly wasn’t part of the royal itinerary—but our girl fought her way through it and kicked parvo’s butt. Today she’s doing great and ready to find her happily ever after.

Countess is looking for a home that understands the importance of balance. There should be play. There should be adventures. There should be opportunities to stretch those rapidly growing Pyr legs. But there should also be couches. Very important. Please underline couches. With an energy level around 7/10, Countess is an active, playful puppy, but she doesn't require her family to spend every waking moment entertaining her like they're cruise directors aboard the S.S. Fluff. Give her an outlet for her puppy energy and she's perfectly happy settling down afterward to hang out with her people. She's equal parts “LET'S DO SOMETHING!” and “Actually, this couch is incredibly comfortable and I have canceled the remainder of my appointments.” A securely fenced yard would be ideal for Countess. She enjoys having room to run and play, and considering she's a Great Pyrenees, we'd prefer not to test whether the ancient Pyr instinct to wander will eventually download itself into her fluffy little brain. For that reason, her foster doesn't feel an apartment would be her best match. A home with some room to play, a secure yard, and humans who enjoy a nice combination of activity and relaxation would suit Her Ladyship beautifully.

Countess LOVES other dogs. And we don't mean she politely appreciates their company from across the room. We mean Countess sees another dog and immediately thinks: “OH MY GOSH. HI. WE'RE BEST FRIENDS. I'M COUNTESS. WHAT'S YOUR NAME? DO YOU WANT TO PLAY? I'LL COME CLOSER. HOW ABOUT NOW? NOW? WE'RE PLAYING NOW, RIGHT?” Subtlety is still under construction. Countess is playful and social and would absolutely enjoy having a doggie companion in her forever home. She isn't mean or confrontational—she's simply a very enthusiastic puppy whose desire to make friends occasionally outruns her understanding of personal space. When another dog says, “Ma'am, could you please remove yourself from my face?” Countess may initially interpret that as: “Please submit your friendship request again in approximately four seconds.” Her foster has been working with her on slowing down, calming herself, and respecting when another dog has had enough. She's already making progress, and with continued socialization and guidance, there's every reason to believe her manners will keep improving as she matures. So another playful, patient dog could be a fantastic match. A 97-year-old canine introvert who spends his days contemplating life and would like everyone to remain at least six feet away? Countess may be...a lot. Cats remain unknown. Countess has not yet submitted herself for official feline inspection, so we can't tell you whether she would view a cat as a friend, a mysterious tiny roommate, or a fascinating creature whose personal space she would also very much like to invade. Countess hasn't lived with children in her foster home, but her foster believes she would do well with them. Countess is a social butterfly who gets excited to see new humans, but she isn't currently launching herself at everyone like an enthusiastic furry cannonball. She likes people. She wants to be near people. She thinks people are pretty fantastic. Which is convenient, because her long-term career plan appears to involve being professionally adored by them. As with any young puppy—especially one who is going to become a very large dog—supervision and continued training around younger kiddos will still be important. But temperament-wise, there isn't anything currently suggesting Countess wouldn't enjoy having some little royal subjects of her own.

Countess has already logged quite a few miles in the car and has proven herself to be a respectable little traveler. She's still young enough that her leash résumé is a work in progress. She's adjusting well to wearing a harness and has started leash training, but nobody should expect a three-month-old Great Pyrenees to arrive knowing how to heel like she just graduated from Westminster. Her foster thinks she'll enjoy walks as she gets older, and given her nice combination of adventurous and homebody tendencies, we can easily picture Countess enjoying an outing before returning home to recover from the tremendous burden of having exercised. We should also mention that this girl is smart. Countess knows sit and recognizes several frequently used words, including: Outside. Inside. Cookie. Drop. We suspect “cookie” required approximately eleven seconds of training. She's also doing wonderfully with potty training and hasn't had an accident in several weeks. Her foster says she thrives with structure and routine and is a quick learner, which is exactly what we'd love to see continued in her forever home. Countess LOVES couches. She loves soft dog beds. She loves cuddling up near her people. After she's finished playing, she's perfectly content collapsing into something soft and enjoying the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed. Countess loves toys and enjoys playing. Fetch has been an evolving concept. Initially, her interpretation was: Human throws ball. Countess chases ball. Countess obtains ball. Contract complete. Apparently the human expected the ball to come back, which seemed like an oddly specific detail nobody had mentioned beforehand. But Countess is now learning to bring the ball back! So there may actually be a future retriever hiding underneath all that livestock guardian DNA. Countess isn't currently a huge barker inside the house. Outside, however, her Great Pyrenees operating system has begun installing some of its factory settings. Deer? Reported. Unfamiliar person in the driveway? Reported. Something suspicious happening in Her Ladyship's yard? Oh, you better believe management will be hearing about it. As Countess has become more comfortable in her foster home, she's started viewing it as her home, and her natural protective instincts are beginning to show. Her barking isn't excessive, and she's generally quiet indoors, but she will let her people know when something unfamiliar is nearby.

Now, if you're sitting there thinking, “Oh my gosh, I need this fluffy little diva in my life,” wonderful. The Countess agrees. However, please understand that liking her photo, tagging your spouse with “WE NEED HER,” showing her to your other dog, or announcing to the Facebook comments that she is obviously your soulmate does not constitute an adoption application. We checked. Apparently there is paperwork involved. So if you'd like to formally petition for the privilege of becoming Countess's permanent staff, fill out an adoption application for her.

And one final administrative matter: Countess is being fostered in McAlester, Oklahoma, and her adopter will need to travel to McAlester to pick her up. Yes, even if you live somewhere else. No, the Countess will not be delivered to your doorstep by royal carriage. No, we cannot summon a flock of woodland creatures to escort her across state lines. And despite her title, she does not come with a chauffeur. If Countess is your girl, it's time to stop admiring the nobility from afar. Submit the application. Make the drive. Claim your Countess. She'll bring the fluff, the cuddles, the happy little food songs, the personality, and enough Great Pyrenees attitude to ensure that while you may technically be the adopter...we all know who's getting the throne. 👑❤️
