Meet Tanner

Tanner is a handsome red longhaired dachshund with a heart that is completely devoted to his person. Tanner is 12 years young.  If you're looking for a loyal shadow who wants nothing more than to spend every moment by your side, Tanner is your guy.

Tanner isn't interested in being the life of the party. He peacefully tolerates other dogs but would much rather spend his time soaking up affection from his favorite human than playing with canine companions. His happiest place is on the sofa, snuggled up next to you, following you from room to room, and making sure you're never alone.

This sweet boy enjoys short walks, but he's happy to let you know when he's had enough. He'll also let you know when he'd like to go outside with a little whine—though he isn't always consistent. Tanner does mark in the house, so his forever family should be prepared to continue working on management. He's also mastered the art of wiggling out of a belly band or diaper if given the chance!

Tanner is a bit of a foodie...when he wants to be. He's selective about what he'll eat and is currently working on losing about 10 pounds to reach a healthier weight. Despite years of having severely overgrown nails before coming to rescue, which left his front feet a bit splayed, he gets around just fine and doesn't let it slow him down.

Tanner's ideal home is a calm, quiet one. He isn't a fan of roughhousing or busy, energetic children, so a peaceful retirement-style home would suit him best. He also prefers gentle handling. He does not like being redirected with someone's foot or leg and may react by trying to nip, so his family should understand his boundaries and use positive, hands-off redirection techniques.

Tanner won't be the dog for everyone—and that's okay. He's looking for his person: someone who appreciates a constant companion, doesn't mind sharing the couch, and understands that the strongest bonds are built on patience, kindness, and unconditional love.
