ABOUT MAITAKE
This little lady had quite the busy start to life, but is ready for her next chapter! Maitake originally came to HAP when she was just a 3-month-old puppy, and was swiftly adopted. Unfortunately, when her owners had to leave the country unexpectedly, they were unable to bring her along. Knowing that Maitake would be safe with us, and reunited with familiar faces, they brought her back to HAP. After a few days of adjustment, Maitake has returned to the goofy, silly girl we all love! She loves zooming around our fenced fields, lounging in the sun, and hanging out with all people. In addition to her playful, social personality, she is also incredibly smart and eager to learn. She already knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and will do just about anything for a snack. Maitake has thrived participating in our Doggy Day Out program, where she has breaks from the shelter to explore the world. Check out what our volunteers had to say about her:

"Maitake was the sweetest cuddly bug! We did a short 1.5 mile walk with shade and water breaks, then cuddled in the air conditioned car for a while. She wasn’t able to get in the car on her own, but definitely would be able to with some practice. She hopped out without a problem. Maitake was interested in meeting people we passed on the trail, but never lunged or jumped at them. Loud trains and cars didn’t startle her. She seems very intelligent and easy to train! Maitake would make an awesome running/hiking partner once the weather cools down." - Emma

"Yesterday was an amazing day with Maitake! She was such a fun, playful, and sweet dog. We first took her to PetSmart to get some toys. After PetSmart, we took her to our house and she was so excited! She sniffed almost everything and even started playing in the mulch! She had fun playing with her new toys but her favorite toy of all was the ice in the bowl of water we gave her! After playing outside for a while and exerting some of her energy, we took Maitake for a walk at the park. She was so calm while on the walk. She didn't bark at anyone and was super friendly to the people who came her way. Then after the park, our last resort was taking her to Starbucks to get a pup cup. She loved the pup cup! Sadly, after all of the fun we had yesterday, it was time to take her back. She was so tired she fell asleep in the car ride back! We loved our time with sweet Maitake!!" - Teresa

"She was great in the car, laying down and comfortable during the drive.  She was very friendly with people of all ages, and had several people interested in adopting her!  She loves treats, and even learned to “sit” for treats!  She was a tired puppy by the end of the event, and she fell asleep in the car on the way back to HAP!  Sweet little girl!" - Julia

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions!
