Meet Rocky: A Gentle Soul Looking for Someone to Believe in Him

Some dogs wear their hearts on their sleeves. Rocky keeps his tucked away, waiting for someone patient enough to earn his trust.

Rocky is a young male Havanese pup, just under a year old, with a gentle spirit and a heart full of potential. He can be very skittish around people and isn't comfortable being picked up or showered with affection just yet. While he isn't the type of dog who will climb into your lap on day one, he is a sweet, lovable boy who has never shown aggression. He simply needs a family that understands relationships are built slowly and on his terms.

One of Rocky's favorite things is being around other dogs. He absolutely loves canine companions and gains confidence by watching them. Whether he's playing with toys, joining in a game of chase, or simply following another dog around, his playful personality begins to shine. A home with another friendly, confident dog would be a wonderful fit for him.

Rocky also gets to accompany his foster mom to work every day, and he's become an excellent little office companion. He rides quietly in the truck and travels very well. At the office, he'll happily settle at her feet while she works. When customers stop by, his curiosity gets the best of him—he'll cautiously wander over for a sniff to investigate his new visitors. He's interested in meeting people but prefers that they let him make the first move and not reach down to pet him until he's ready.

His crate is his safe place, and he settles in easily. In fact, he loves it so much that his foster mom sometimes has to gently encourage him to come back out and explore the world. As his confidence grows, so does his willingness to venture beyond his comfort zone.

Like many young dogs, Rocky is still working on his potty training. He currently feels the need to mark just about everything he sees, but he'll be neutered soon, which should help curb that behavior. With consistency and patience, he's already making wonderful progress in his foster home.

Rocky's journey won't be measured in giant leaps—it will be celebrated through the little victories. The first time he chooses to sit a little closer. The first tail wag when he sees you. The first time he seeks you out because he's learned you're his safe place. He isn't looking for a family to change who he is. He's looking for one that will love him exactly as he is while gently helping him become the confident dog he's meant to be. If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and understand that trust is earned one day at a time, Rocky will reward you with one of the most meaningful bonds you'll ever experience.
